14th Express Entry draw of 2023 – IRCC issued ITAs to candidates

The 14th Express Entry draw of 2023 occurred in June, and IRCC issued invitations to 4,800 candidates in an all-program draw. The CRS score turned out to be 486.

The most recent draw took place on May 24, and 4,800 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 488 received ITAs in an all-program draw. The first draw of June followed the most recent interest. This score exceeds the minimum CRS score requirement of 483 in the all-program draw on April 26.
IRCC announced the draws based on categories. These draws are likely to start this summer.
According to a news release from IRCC on May 31, the department has created six new category-based selection criteria for Express Entry applicants.

Express Entry category-based draws to start this summer

The new categories seek applicants with qualities that advance Canada’s economic objectives. Five are for people who have professional expertise in the following industries:

  • Vocations in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM);
  • Those in the construction, plumbing, and transportation industries;
  • Healthcare;
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food;
  • Transport

The last category is for those who speak French fluently.

The government has stated that it anticipates starting the category-based draw this summer, although it has yet to give a specific date.
Candidates must exist in the Express Entry pool if they seek eligibility for an ITA in the targeted draws. According to IRCC, Express Entry applicants who satisfy the prerequisites will still achieve a ranking. Also, those with the best scores will receive ITAs.

Express Entry draws in 2023 in a nutshell

In 2023, the IRCC invited 49,948 candidates across 13 draws, except the present one. There are already quite a few more applicants here than those sought between July and November of 2022. After a break caused by the COVID-19 epidemic (31,000 candidates), IRCC did not conduct another all-program draw until July 2022.

In May, there were two draws for Express Entry. First, a Provincial Nominee Program draw for 589 candidates was held on May 10. These applicants were both in the Express Entry pool and provincial government nominees.

The two April draws resembled one other greatly. Both drawings, which invited 3,500 candidates, were for the entire program. Candidates needed a CRS score of 346 for the April 12 draw and a CRS score of 483 for the April 26 draw.

Regarding the overall number of draws and candidates, March remained exceptional. There were four draws, and 21,677 applicants were selected overall. Three of the four draws sought 7,000 candidates each and were all-program. With 667 people yet to be drawn, only PNP was eligible.

Four draws took place in February as well, although each one was dedicated to a special program; three were for PNP applicants, and the fourth was for applicants to the Federal Skilled Worker Program (the first such draw in Express Entry history). Two all-program draws in January attracted 5,500 applicants each.

Express Entry

To better prioritize high-skilled economic immigration prospects for permanent residence, the IRCC formed the Express Entry application management system in 2015.

Candidates from the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the FSWP, and the Canadian Experience Class are evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System.

It takes into account a candidate’s age, education, work history, language proficiency, and other transferable aspects. The likelihood of receiving an ITA for Canadian permanent residence is highest for applicants with the highest CRS score.
Later this year, it is anticipated that IRCC will focus less on a high CRS score and start to target applicants based on any particular quality considered in demand at the time in the Canadian economy.
