2 PNP draws were conducted by Ontario, Canada

A representative of Ontario’s provincial government talked about 2 draws of the Provincial Nominee Program that were held in the month of May. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program couldn’t take place because of the ongoing provincial government elections that ended on the 2nd of June.

A total of 57 invitations were granted to qualifying candidates on the 4th of May. All the qualifying candidates had applied in the Expression of Interest pool. The OINP granted 535 notifications of interest to applicants who qualified the eligibility criteria of Skilled Trades Stream and had scores ranging between 295 to 461 CRS points.

In demand skills stream

This category targets applicants after considering provincial demand instead of occupation-oriented skills. The majority of immigration programs are occupation oriented which means their target is more inclined toward the high Skilled occupations.

Although the province still faces labor shortages in low-skilled occupations. Foreign workers who possess a valid employment offer in the province of Ontario have the eligibility to apply for the PNP. The candidate must have work experience of 9 months out of 36 months, under which seasonal work experience is not acceptable.

Part-time work is also acceptable in 2 cases – if the candidate has completed a total of 1,200 hours in a time period of 18 months or if the candidate has spent 30 hours in 7 days for a period of 9 months, which indirectly accounts for 1,200 hours.

A candidate has to qualify for certain other eligibility requirements like completion of a high school study program, a minimum score of 4 in all language proficiencies, enough funds to settle in the country, etc. To begin the process of getting an invitation from the province of Ontario, a candidate has to set up a valid profile in the EOI system where all the applicants will be ranked on the basis of several factors.

The marking pattern takes various factors into consideration like the study program, intended location in the province of Ontario, etc. The objective is to assist applicants possessing skill sets and work experience to qualify for the labor market requirements of Ontario.

Although the completion of the registration process does not guarantee the grant of provincial nomination by the province. The validity of EOI profiles only lasts for a year and the OINP may demand applications anytime.

Ontario’s Express Entry

Skilled trades Stream

The OINP identifies Express Entry profiles who are currently residing in the province of Ontario.

The Express Entry pool looks for candidates who belong to any of the 3 categories- CEC, FSTC, and FSWC. The eligibility criteria of Skilled Trades Stream demand candidates who possess work experience of at least 1 year completed in the province of Ontario.

Or candidates who are engaged in part-time work in any occupation listed in the NOC codes 72, 73, and 82. Although possessing an Employment offer is not necessarily required for the Skilled Trades Stream but the candidate has to qualify for all the important requirements of the provincial program.

Candidates will be rewarded with a bonus score of 600 CRS points if they get a nomination from Skilled Trades Stream for Canadian permanent residency which will significantly result in the grant of an ITA.
