A total of 7,257 immigrants have been invited through a provincial nomination in Canada.
787 immigrants having Express Entry profiles have been invited for Canadian permanent residency by the end of the second week of April.
Selected candidates have obtained the provincial nominations and have a minimum score of CRS 782 points. The minimum score requirement has been standardized high because of the complementary 600 points given to the candidates after receiving a provincial nomination. Removing the additional marks would bring back the base score at CRS 182 points.
In the earlier round, the IRCC had called a total of 919 PNP candidates obtaining a minimum score of CRS 785 points.
In the early 3 months of 2022, Canada started at a slow pace by only inviting 6,740 Express Entry candidates. Q1 of 2022 is considered to be the slowest quarter of Express Entry since 2015.
The decline in the number of invitations through Express Entry is an outcome of IRCC only inviting applications for provincial nominations from the end of last year since draws of FSWP and CEC have been paused.
Pre pandemic, the majority of draws weren’t program-specific, which implies that immigrants from any of the programs operated by the Express Entry could apply.
The primary focus of the Canadian government shifted towards changing the status of temporary residents into permanent residents as travel-related restrictions were imposed in the country during the pandemic.
This step had a negative impact as well. The backlog inventory of Express Entry applications started to increase which further led to the increased processing time.
The IRCC had halted the draws for Express Entry in favor of non-PNP programs till the backlog inventory reduces to half and the actual processing time matches the ideal processing time of 180 days.
The immigration minister of Canada had mentioned resuming draws for skilled workers by approaching summers on various occasions.
Express entry
The Express Entry is a system through which the Government of Canada manages the applications of immigrants applying under 3 categories of CEC, FSTP, and FSWP.
This system ranks candidates based on their CRS scores. A comprehensive Ranking Score is a scoring criterion that is calculated after considering various factors of the candidates.
The candidates positioned at the top of the chronology are given an Invitation to Apply for applying for Canadian Permanent Residency.
The further evaluation of the complete application is done by any of the personnel of the IRCC. If the application is approved, the candidates are asked to submit a few documents, photographs, and fingerprints.
Candidates passing this stage are given a Confirmation of Permanent Residence. This gives them the opportunity to come to Canada. Immigrants can have access to pre-arrival services while landing in Canada.
Invitation
Below is given an imaginary example of an immigrant applying for the Express Entry.
Simran is 39 years old, holds a Bachelor’s degree, and has been working as a construction executive since 2016. She had never worked or studied in a Canadian province but aimed to migrate to Canada. She attains an advanced level in the English language. She started by entering the Express Entry pool and successfully scored CRS 386 points. Further, she became eligible in obtaining a provincial nomination for the province of Alberta and simultaneously her score increased to 986 points. This final score of her offers her to get an Invitation to Apply.
