New Express Entry categories have been introduced for candidates by IRCC. This implies that Express Entry candidates will now be a part of category-based selection draws. According to Sean Fraser’s latest announcement, IRCC will not target candidates with higher French language proficiency. Also, candidates with considerable work experience in the above categories will be considered:
- Agriculture and Agri-Food.
- Healthcare
- Transport
- Trades – Carpenters, Contractors, and Plumbers
- STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics professions
Sean Fraser shared his point of view that enabling IRCC to welcome more skilled workers in specific occupations will encourage the country’s commitment to receiving in-demand professionals into Canada’s numerous communities.
The new category draws are likely to begin later this summer.
The emergence of new Express Entry categories
The new Express Entry categories intend to fill vacant job positions across Canada. Immigration is a crucial factor responsible for the decline of a labor shortage and for enhancing the popularity of the French language among minority-based French communities besides Quebec.
Fraser even claimed that these ongoing Express Entry alterations would help the skilled workers evolve and succeed. He further stated that it is possible to enhance the economy and expand their business with labor shortages. Meanwhile, they can increase the level of candidates with French proficiency to maintain the significance of Francophone communities. In a simplified context, the Canadian immigration system is in its best phase because it really does respond well to the country’s social and economic requirements.
Category-wise draws will begin in 2023 after the changes made to the IRPA in June last year.
These changes will offer a chance for the minister to choose immigrants who will be appropriate for the country’s economic priorities.
The process of choosing the categories
The categories were determined in accordance with legal requirements that the Minister take part in open consultation with provinces and territories, business leaders, labor advocates, unions, employers, and organizations that provide services for settling immigrants.
The IRCC will report annually to Parliament on the following:
- The selection criteria used the year before, including their rationale and methodology.
- The guidelines for creating a category.
- The number of invitations sent out for each category.
Express Entry
In order to address the shifting demands of Canada’s economy and labor sector, Express Entry became operational in 2015. Three economic immigration programs—the Federal Skilled Workers Program, the FSTP, and the Canadian Experience Class—are managed using this application management system.
Candidates for these programs receive scores based on human capital variables such as job experience, language proficiency, occupation, education, and more using the Comprehensive Ranking System. The most likely recipients of an Invitation to Apply for Permanent Residence were the applicants who received the highest total CRS score.
