IRCC officially revealed the Express Entry annual report of 2022
IRCC displayed its annual Express Entry Report 2022 on September 26. Overall, in 2022, there have been nearly 24 Express Entry draws, and these draws invited 46,539 candidates by issuing them invitations to apply. However, compared to 2021, there is a decline of 59 percent in the number of invitations issued.
This was primarily due to a long haul for the Federal High Skilled programs. The pause happened between September 2021 and July 2022. Additionally, in 2022, a majority of Express Entry draws were sent to candidates under PNP and CEC. 19,259 candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program attained ITAs, while Canadian Experience Class candidates who got ITAs were around 18,895.
The remaining 8,386 ITAs were issued to those under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Also, the Federal Skilled Trades Program didn’t issue any number of ITAs in 2022.
Candidates who worked as Software Engineers and Designers, Information Systems Specialists, and Computer Systems Developers and Programmers were the standard professions that received ITAs. Another common occupation that had most candidates with ITAs was Food Service Supervisors and Cooks.
Over 30,000 invitations were issued to candidates who were Canadian residents. Next, the two most prominent countries with candidates receiving the most number of ITAs were India and Nigeria. India had 3,787 candidates with ITAs, whereas Nigeria had 1,730 candidates with ITAs.
Defining Category-Based Selection Draw
The Canadian government modified the IRPA in June 2022 to govern the immigration minister to choose immigrants based on a few selection factors. The factors must prioritize Canada’s economic requirements, including work experience or the French language.
In May 2023, IRCC launched six new categories of Express Entry draws that align with the changed system. These new categories are as follows:
- STEM Professions
- Healthcare
- Agriculture and Agri-Food
- Transport
- Trades
- Higher proficiency in the French language
The new categories emerged through suggestions and discussions with IRCC partners, stakeholders, and the provincial governments.
These new categories represent the available streams under the Provincial Nominee Program, allowing the provincial governments to choose economic-class immigration candidates. These are the candidates who will mostly align with the provincial economy successfully.
Typically, the candidates will be chosen through a particular attribute, including language proficiency or considerable job experience in a prominent profession.
The Provincial Nominee Program issues provincial nominations and solidifies a Permanent Residence application. On the other hand, the category-based selection draws issue ITAs to candidates to apply to IRCC for PR.
Express Entry summary
Express Entry is a management system for immigration applications. The entire application system operates through the three primary programs, which are the FSTP, the FSWP, and the Canadian Experience Class.
Candidates must obtain a minimum CRS score per the cut-off of each draw to get an invitation to apply. The CRS score will depend on certain human capital factors, including age, education, occupation, work experience, and language skills.
Each factor comprises a particular point value. Also, candidates with the highest CRS scores will receive an invitation in an upcoming Express Entry draw.
Once candidates have analyzed their eligibility for an Express Entry program, uploading their profile on the official website of IRCC will be crucial. Next, they will need to apply for PR.
IRCC works with the objective of processing 80 percent of Express Entry applications within a standard timeframe of six months.
