Three Provinces Chose Applicants For Immigration Programs

Three provinces chose applicants for immigration programs in Canada and have subsequently issued invitations to apply.

British Columbia and Manitoba issued invitations/ Expressions of Interest in their recent Provincial Nominee Programs draws. All territories, as well as provinces, have PNPs to help provincial governments select economic immigration candidates who will be able to integrate into the provincial workforce easily.

The Provincial Nominee Program works because immigration is a shared responsibility between the federal and provincial governments. Every year, provinces obtain an allocation of nominations they might issue to candidates.

In addition, applicants who are able to obtain a provincial nomination are in a much stronger position to further apply to IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for permanent residence.

Moreover, Quebec has a separate agreement with the federal government that offers it autonomy over the selection of its economic immigrants instead of obtaining an allocation. As a result, it does not require a PNP. Instead of obtaining a nomination, candidates in Quebec are invited to apply for a CSQ, i.e., Quebec Selection Certificate.
