Jobs in New Brunswick that are trending due to COVID-19

The pandemic has affected global work availability. The majority of the working groups had to shift to the Work from Home model, some lost their job, and some witnessed reduction in working hours, hence less pay.

The government of Canada conducted a study recently. The study covers the effect of the outbreak on the labour market of New Brunswick.

Where some professions witnessed their all-time low count due to COVID, some were able to thrive in the pandemic. Some of those jobs are covered below. We have also mentioned their respective National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes.

1. Management jobs and business, finance and administration jobs

Below mentioned professions are trending in this category:

  1. Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)

The pandemic had a negative influence on the number of computer and information systems managers employed. However, it is now likely to return to pre-pandemic levels over time.

Some organizations have had trouble finding computer and information systems managers who have the necessary abilities to perform the job’s tasks and obligations.

  1. Financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111)

During the COVID-19 outbreak, financial auditors and accountants did well, and individuals were able to keep their jobs.

This is due to the fact that the work’s primary functions permitted individuals to work remotely. Furthermore, the start of the epidemic coincided with the busiest tax season of the year. This could have aided in the avoidance of unemployment.

This career has been in the great industry in recent years, and a scarcity of financial auditors and accountants is possible.

2. Natural and applied sciences and similar jobs

These jobs are typically in fields like engineering and design solutions that were relatively unaffected by the COVID-19 epidemic. Indeed, between March and April 2020, when the broader economy was suffering owing to the closure of several non-essential enterprises, employment in natural and applied sciences surged. In future, jobs in these areas are likely to rise.

Some jobs that are in demand for this sector:

  • Information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171);
  • Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174);
  • Computer network technicians (NOC 2281);
  • User support technicians (NOC 2282).

3. Health care jobs

The health care sector has witnessed huge growth since the inception of the pandemic.

For more than twenty years, the number of people employed in healthcare jobs increased then levelled off in the two years leading up to the outbreak.

Here are some of the careers that have benefited:

  • Licensed practical nurses (NOC 3233);
  • Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates (NOC 3413).

4. Law, social services, government and education sector

After switching to remote lecturing, a number of teachers noticed a dramatic adjustment in their work habits. In the francophone education system, there has been news of labour deficiencies.

The pandemic forced people to remain at home for extended periods of time, which resulted in an increase in domestic strife. This resulted in an improvement in the demand for social assistance.

Some professions that are in trend right now for this sector:

  • Secondary school teachers (NOC 4031) – (francophone model);
  • Elementary school and kindergarten teachers (NOC 4032) – in the francophone school system;
  • Social workers (NOC 4152);
  • Early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214).

5. Transport and trading sector

The majority of the workers in this profession are above the age of 55. Whenever more employees retire, job prospects may expand.

These jobs suffered just minor job losses. This could be due to the fact that few of these positions are in industries that were severely impacted by the outbreak.

Due to decreasing demand for particular items at the start of the epidemic, truck drivers were badly impacted. However, in other areas, such as Moncton and Saint John, drivers are in limited supply.

Here are some trending jobs as per NOC:

  • Electricians, except industrial and power system (NOC 7241);
  • Carpenters (NOC 7271);
  • Transport truck drivers (NOC 7511);

How to immigrate to New Brunswick?

If the individual has any work experience so they can opt for one of the federal immigration streams to immigrate.

Federal Skilled Worker Program,

Federal Skilled Trades Program, and

Canadian Experience Class.

The individual has to update their demographic information on the Express Entry portal. These streams are considered to be only for skilled workers as per Canadians.

Apart from the ones mentioned below, all the jobs discussed so far are considered for the skilled category:

  • Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates (NOC 3413); and
  • Transport truck drivers (NOC 7511).

The federal streams are not the only option to move to this province. It handles Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) as well.

For instance, theNew  Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream allows people who have a permanent job offer in the province. Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) is another option that immigrants can opt to settle in New Brunswick. This one allows employers to recruit foreign talents. However, this is specific for the Atlantic region only. The Atlantic Provinces are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

The benefit of this stream is that job providers do not necessarily have to get Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). LMIA is needed in some cases where they need to show that there is no local eligible/available for the job; that is why they need to hire someone from a foreign nation.

In addition, Canada is providing avenues for important employees who worked in the nation during the pandemic for a limited time. Nurse aides, receptionists, and care delivery employees are among the 40 healthcare vocations eligible for immigration through the essential worker paths. Twenty thousand places have been set aside for healthcare personnel who were in the nation during the outbreak. The deadline to apply is November 5th, or until the admission cap is met.
