The medical exam exemption is being reinstated in Canada. However, it is only temporary and will be for a few immigrants.
Until the end of March next year, people living in Canada and applying for immigration won’t have to take the medical tests. The policy was instated in June this year and should have expired on the 28th of this month.
Whenever an outsider is applying for PR, they must go under medical tests or show the unique code from the previous one. The exemption lets them apply without taking an additional test. However, they must have taken the exam before and should follow the criteria mentioned below:
- they have already applied but have not taken the new exam
- the test was taken within 60 months, and the individual is not posing any risk to locals
- have complied with health regulatory standards and monitoring
- have not left the maple country for more than 180 days in the year of applying
- have not been to any country (for more than 180 days) which requires an immigration medical exam as per the immigration department of Canada
The individual who is applying, their family members are also eligible if they meet the Canadian pr requirement as mentioned above.
The immigration department stated in a press release that whoever is not eligible will be contacted by the department for further steps. They added that it would help boost the procedure of low-risk individuals living in the country while maintaining the public safety protocol.
The exemption will also help the immigration department to decrease the duration of application processing. Though the department was able to reach its immigration goal for the year (401,000 newcomers), they have an enormous amount of applications in their backlog. According to the latest reports, close to 1,800,000 individuals are in queue to get the PR status.
