All the travellers heading to Canada have to be fully vaccinated. There are a few exemption categories. However, they are still subject to health measures implemented by the authorities.
The country already had a measure in place which necessitates the requirement of complete vaccination for all the non-essential visitors from other countries. So the new change requires essential travellers to be fully inoculated.
Family members of people who have registered in the Indian act, local and permanent residents of Canada, now fall in this category. Furthermore, international students (18 years and older), work permit holders (except agriculture and food processing sector), and workers in essential service (truckers as well) also have to present a double-vaccinated certificate.
Citizens/permanent residents are still allowed without vaccination. However, they will have to follow all the health measures before, during and after entering the maple country.
Foreign nationals who are partially/unvaccinated will be allowed to enter the maple country only if they qualify for an exception.
Below are some examples of exemptions:
- Agricultural and food processing workers
- Marine staff
- resettling refugees
- Folks entering on compassionate grounds
- some youngsters under the age of 18
- new permanent residents
Travellers who are not required to be completely vaccinated must still undergo public health measures instated by authorities Foreigners who have not been inoculated and who do not fall under any exception/exemption group will be refused entry to maple country.
When those with symptoms arrive at the crossing, they will be routed to a Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) employee. Further, they will be ordered to quarantine for ten days.
The day is counted from when the symptoms started.
Border guards have the last say on who is allowed to enter the land of snow. They will also decide whether or not travellers must be put in isolation.
In November, Government stated the criteria for travellers to be completely inoculated, at the same time as the government enlarged its understanding of “fully vaccinated.”
Travellers should have received the full prescribed dose of vaccine to be considered fully immunized. Also, it should be from the maple country’s authorized list. Before trying to enter Canada, the final dosage should have been provided at least two weeks earlier. Before entering the maple country, travellers must also provide any needed data to ArriveCAN.

- Sinovac (CoronaVac, PiCoVacc)
At present, a booster dose is not required to be considered as Fully-vaccinated in Canada.
