IRCC Offers Flexibility to Ukrainians for Biometrics

People of Ukraine aged between 14 and 17, above 60 can finish their biometrics processing at the time of arrival.

A new update for Ukrainians for no longer submitting the biometrics at Visa Application Centers will now be into effect from onwards.

The immigration minister of Canada talked about how requiring biometrics is crucial for the Canadian Government. This is one of the mediums on which the Canadian Government relies for identity management. It is the government’s way of protecting and safeguarding its province.

The IRCC has categorized Ukrainians lying in the following 3 categories to be facilitated with flexibility in the processing of biometrics-

  • Ukrainians aged between 14-17years
  • People of Ukraine above 60 years
  • Ukrainians holding Canadian visas with no offensive records

Also, kids under the age of 14 years do not require biometrics.

This initiative was made to protect its citizens concerning Ukrainians entered the country. This will ensure accommodating Ukrainians as soon as possible.

The IRCC has released a special program for Ukrainians named Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel by enforcing a work permit for 3 years. This will help in assisting Ukrainians suffering because of the conflict.

Earlier, the IRCC required submission of biometrics before arrival in Canada. This resulted in a lot of challenges as the number of appointments booked for biometric processing was far more than the available VACs. The immigration minister was being questioned by various groups for either abandoning the requirements of visa or biometrics at the time of arrival.

Oppositions have claimed that such initiatives are not assisting the people of Ukraine. Later, the minister had clarified that it would be difficult to identify the security issues.

The updated policy by the IRCC is formed in a way to categorize groups that are at low risk in comparison with other groups of Ukrainians.

The concept for collecting biometrics is to promote easy identification of visitors. Although few groups of visitors do still need to submit their biometrics before they enter the Canadian province. This verification includes the submission of photographs and fingerprints.
