‘Historica Canada’ is a charitable organization working nationally to make people aware of Canadian history. To educate people this organization produced and shared one-minute plays comprising all significant moments that took place in the history of Canada in the previous 30 years.
These short films or plays are also known as “Heritage Moments”. The main focus of these films is to let the audience comprehend the inherent values of Canada and the reason to celebrate those values. These values act as the common link between Canadians and Canadian culture.
Heritage Moments are a perfect way to display the contributions made by Canada toward the rights of women, sports, science, and pop culture. Other highlights of these short films include the refugees and immigrants who’ve put in so much effort in shaping Canada’s future.
Immigration has primarily contributed to the maintenance of the labor force in Canada, without which the economy wouldn’t have flourished so far. Other Heritage moments depict a more significant impact of immigration on the history of Canada.
The role of immigrants in settling the Prairies
Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba comprised prairie provinces that were thinly populated before the 19th century. This was when Ukraine immigrants in the provinces established farms and other settlements.
Canadian history serves as a safer place for refugees
Canada also serves individuals seeking warmth and security in dangerous circumstances of their home countries. The Immigration Levels Plan 2022-2024 targets to welcome more than 60,000 refugees annually until 2024.
Canada is a safe harbor for refugees and families where they can accomplish more and even live healthier and serene life.
Canada was one of those rare countries that welcomed the refugees when the Vietnam war ended.
Canada’s history with the indigenous people
Canada has always been famous for its welcoming attitude toward immigrants. However, not everything about Canada is positive. Canada Day took a different turn altogether in 2021 when the dead bodies of over a thousand indigenous children began unraveling across the country. These children had died in the residential schools. Celebrating Canada Day has even led to a lot of backlashes from people.
Heritage Minute- A Classic
Heritage Minute is a Canadian classic that doesn’t just revolve around immigration but also is one of the most remarkable classics.
Heritage Moments are as old as the baby boomers, generation x, and millennials, who must have watched it on television way before the streaming sessions went live. For unknown reasons, it is believed to be a cultural reference and causes confusion and emotion among people.
The short film narrates the immigration story of Dr. Wilder Penfield, a Brain Surgeon, who migrated from the U.S to Montreal and saved the lives of people who have Seizure disorders.
