Express Entry
Express Entry is a prominent pathway to let skilled workers gain entry in Canada. The application system operates online and manages thousands of immigration applications aligned closely with the Federal Skilled Trades Program, Federal Skilled Workers Program, and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). These streams evaluated the qualification level of the candidates and even provided them with ranks to compete against others.
The Comprehensive Ranking System is used to provide ranks to candidates, even before they are supposed to check their eligibility for the programs of their choice. Once they do so, they must create an Express Entry profile. Once they do so, they even have to create an Express Entry profile. They are even provided with a CRS through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. The CRS score is based on factors such as language skills, work experience, age, and more of the Human Capital criteria. Depending on the superiority of the score, the candidate is supposed to receive invitations to apply for permanent residence.
Federal Skilled Worker Program
The Federal Skilled Worker Program is a widely used immigration pathway, especially for individuals who have considerable work experience and have obtained education from abroad, and intend to settle permanently in the country. FSWP was the first program to introduce the points-based system, and it continued to be the foundation for several programs in different countries.
All the Express Entry system programs will require candidates to evaluate their eligibility criteria on their own. FSWP candidates need to qualify for the following minimum eligibility standards:
- Skilled work experience of a minimum of one year is required.
- A CLB score of 7 in the approved test of French or English language.
- Demonstrating one Educational Credential is essential. Presenting fund proof.
- Obtaining 67 points out of 100 as per the FSWP scoring grid.
Next step, if you’re eligible
Once you are considered eligible, your first step must be to create an Express Entry profile on the IRCCs website. After you upload your Express Entry profile, you will receive your CRS score and enter the Express Entry pool.
IRCC had discontinued the all-program draws for quite some time, but it started with the draws on July 6. These draws are held every two weeks, with high-scoring candidates receiving the invitations.
The CRS score isn’t stagnant and keeps changing with each draw. The ever-changing CRS score might not send you an invitation for one draw, but there are still chances of receiving an invite in the next one. IRCC has a standard time of processing applications within six months. Receiving an ITA implies you have only sixty days to apply directly to IRCC for PR.
Express Entry modifications in 2023
2023 will welcome immigrants to Canada based on targeted draws implying invitations sent to candidates to attain permanent residency status. Only a selected few candidates will get the invite, and they will be assessed in terms of their occupation, educational qualifications, and language capabilities. The current assessment pattern is based on the CRS score or eligibility program.

Provincial Nomination
Provincial Nominee Programs allow the provincial governments to choose appropriate candidates best suited for their provinces. PNPs are applicable for the provinces as they have a separate set of criteria, but Quebec and Nunavut are exceptions. Provinces have the authority to pick candidates from the Express Entry pool and invite them to apply directly to the provincial government. This process is referred to as the Enhanced Nomination. However, other candidates not available in the Express Entry pool can apply directly to the province. A provincial nomination has the potential to boost your CRS score by 600 extra points, and it also doubles the chances of candidates receiving an invitation to apply.
