Alberta held the first draw of the year on 5th January. The province sent 250 invites to Express Entry applicants to apply for a nomination under its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). They conducted the draw under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP), and the threshold was kept at a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 327. The applicants may have eligibility for a nomination under the Alberta Express Entry stream.
After successfully getting the nomination, the applicant requests permanent residency in the maple country. Nominated individuals are primed to get an invite to upcoming draws. They can apply for federal streams afterward from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Although the draw was conducted a while ago, the news about it was announced recently. This came after a week when the province announced the latest Accelerated Tech Pathway.
Alberta Express Entry stream
The basic thing while applying for the Alberta Express Entry stream is to make an Express Entry profile.
Express Entry is a platform created by the Canadian government to handle the particulars of applicants. The medium assists in handling the below federal programs:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC),
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
The platform uses the CRS to allot points to applicants based on their demographic details. Individuals who get the maximum score have a chance to get an invite in the next round of invites. After getting the invite, they need to apply for PR with relevant documents. An officer at the immigration department reviews the details/docs to conclude a final say on the application. They have the authority to request biometrics and may ask for more doc if not satisfied. Sometimes they may ask you to come for an interview as well.
It is possible to get through immigration without the nomination as well. However, for applicants whose scores are comparatively low, a nomination will help them get back on top of the queue for upcoming draws. For example, an applicant with the lowest score, let’s say 352, will have an almost negligible chance of getting an invite. However, the nomination will bring their total to 952, which effectively increases the chance of getting an invite.
Eligibility for the stream
The basic criterion is to have professional experience in any of the eligible occupations. The AINP releases a list of professions that are not eligible. Yes, so you can see and check if you have experience in any of the listed professions, then you will not be eligible; the rest can apply for it. The province mentions that due to the high volume of applicants, it takes a while for them to process all the applications.
If you have your experience in Canada, you have done your studies there, or you have a job offer in the maple country, then your chances of getting a nomination increase. If you also have any family members residing in the country, then that will be an advantage for you.
Furthermore, the basic eligibility requirements remain the same, like scoring at least 300 scores in Express Entry. One may receive Notification of Interest (NOI) as well if they show interest in shifting to the province.
Once you receive the NOI, you can complete your application for the nomination procedure. As mentioned above, it will increase your odds of getting an invite in the subsequent draws.
