Alberta halted the Alberta Opportunity Stream for new PNP streams related to tourism and hospitality. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program halted the processing of applications for the above stream. AAIP took this initiative to combat the existing inventory and target other important factors. The limited options for immigration nominations will now cater to in-demand sectors, including healthcare, construction, technology, agriculture, tourism, and hospitality.
This temporary pause took effect on February 15. However, the province will evaluate any applications under the Alberta Opportunity Stream before February 15. In addition, it will bring forth more initiatives to tackle increased applications in the upcoming times. This way, Alberta will be able to process applications within the standard timeframe and according to the program priorities.
AAIP’s Alberta Opportunity Stream focuses on temporary foreign workers who work full-time in Alberta. They also have authentic and valid Canadian work permits and possess a full-time employment offer from Alberta’s employer. Post-graduation work Permit candidates might qualify for this stream.
Alberta halted the Alberta Opportunity Stream for new PNP streams of Tourism and Hospitality
The AAIP is on the verge of starting a new stream for people who have a recent six-month work experience in a tourism or hospitality business. In addition, they must qualify for the eligibility conditions to establish themselves in the province. Furthermore, candidates must possess valid full-time work offers from a designated employer in a suitable industry. Also, the employment offer must not be seasonal.
Alberta government’s recent update confirmed that it will assist the government in dealing with labor shortages across the industry. Additionally, it will enable businesses in Alberta and the rural areas to retain workers and re-establish the economy.
Reportedly, the province will accept only a restricted number of applications for the stream and fast-track the processing within other measures according to their priorities. Further information will be available as of March 1, 2024.
Alberta has edged up as a desirable destination for tourists and travelers. A recent data report by the provincial government claims that around 32 million people came to this province in 2022. As a result, the overall expenditure turned out to be $10.7 billion.
Alberta immigration
Alberta’s government uses the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program to choose the economic-class immigration candidate who will be the best fit for the economy. This program is a distinct Provincial Nominee Program for Alberta. Similar to all the Provincial Nominee Programs, several other streams exist that choose candidates based on different in-demand characteristics.
For instance, Alberta comprises PNP streams focusing on skilled workers in particular professions, including healthcare and agriculture. Additionally, it consists of PNP streams for those employed in Alberta’s rural areas, along with entrepreneurs.
These PNPs allocate a fixed number of nominations to the provinces, based on which they can further send invitations for an entire year. For instance, last year, Alberta issued 9,750 nominations to AAIP candidates. However, Alberta didn’t confirm any allocation number for this year. However, according to the Immigration Levels Plan, in general, Canada will issue 110,000 PNP invitations to newcomers toward the end of 2024.
