Why Priority Sectors And Employers Matter?

As Altona/ Rhineland announces RCIP sectors and employers, let’s discuss why priority sectors and employers matter at all.

Well, the RCIP is employer-driven, meaning the pathway to permanent residency starts with securing a job offer from an approved employer in a priority sector. This structure helps meet local labor market demands while supporting community economic development.

Moreover, the local economic development organization vets designated employers and allows them to offer positions only within the community’s identified priority occupations.

Once a foreign national receives a community-endorsed job offer, they become eligible to apply to the federal government for permanent residency through the RCIP.

As of July 2025, 14 communities across Canada are participating in the RCIP. Most have now published their priority sectors and designated employers, including Altona/Rhineland.
