Canada welcomed 35,000 immigrants at beginning of 2022

The Canadian Government has welcomed 35,260 Canadian PR at the very beginning of this year.

The latest revealed data through IRCC has shown that this year has started strongly by welcoming around 40,000 immigrants from different nations for two years in a row.

The Canadian Government aims to welcome 4,32,000 immigrants in 2022 which is the highest number of immigrants in Canadian immigration history. In 2021, the government had invited a total of 4,05,000 immigrants. This was the highest number of immigrants coming to Canada since 1913 when the government had invited a total of 4 lakhs of immigrants to settle in the Canadian province.

From the start of this year, the Canadian government had landed around 40,000 immigrants in its country.

  •  Out of which 65% of them were under Economic Class. Although the Canadian Government had decided to invite about 56% under the category which was mentioned in the Levels Plan of this year.
  • The other proportion of 20% was from family class while the target according to Levels Plan was 24%.
  • 15%of the total immigrants were from the refugee and humanitarian category while the target was 20%.

Around 7,700 immigrants coming from the Economic Class were from The Canadian Experience Class category. The IRCC was highly dependent on CEC the previous year as it contributes to 1/3rd of the total admissions of immigrants.

Last year, The Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident was the 2nd highest program under the Economic Class to admit more than seven thousand international scholars and skilled workers. Followed by PNP through which more than four thousand immigrants were welcomed. And least immigrants, nearly 2,600 coming from the category of FSWP.

The IRCC is trying to process applications received under the FSWP category at a higher rate because it was primarily the leading program under Economic Class in 1967 and at the beginning of COVID. The previous year, IRCC had de-escalated the procedure of FSWP to modify students with study permits, foreign professionals with work permits, and other temporary residents into Canadian permanent residents to match the targets of the Levels Plan.

This policy is based on the concept that the goals of IRCC were not able to fully accomplish to welcome more immigrants from FSWP.

The IRCC is trying to process FSWP applications at a faster pace. It has cleared the processing of around 9000 applications of FSWP from December, last year to February. This is one of the indications of how IRCC is trying for speedy processing of applications.

The previous year there were fewer immigration landings in each month. The Canadian Government had decreased the number of immigrants coming to Canada pre-pandemic in Q1 and Q4 because of the cold weather. The number of landings would certainly increase in the spring and summer seasons of Q2 and Q4.

The faster processing of IRCC indicates the arrival of a higher number of immigrants in Q2 and Q3. although the growth was not up to 40% as defined by the IRCC which are still-pending applications to process categorized under TR2PR.

This previous year, the Canadian Government was not able to accomplish its targets because of Covid restrictions around the world. But it is estimated that the same situation will not prevail in the current year. The IRCC has shown that it can efficiently handle a higher number of immigration applications. Also, the IRCC is highly focused on improving the application system and has lifted all travel-related restrictions.
