Canada’s Express Entry Draw for all programs was held recently on November 23, and this is the latest one. Additionally, the draws for all programs resumed on July 6, and IRCC invited 4,750 candidates with the least score of 491 under the Comprehensive Ranking System. Overall, eligible candidates received invitations under the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the FSTP. All of these programs function under the Express Entry system.
Canada’s Express Entry draw- summary of previous draws
Previously, all programs under Express Entry were hauled for 18 months in December 2020. This long haul took place due to the emerging application backlog. Furthermore, the backlog also occurred because of the pandemic-related travel restrictions. Consequently, only CEC and Provincial Nominee Program candidates received invitations. However, in September 2021, even CEC draws had to pause.
Initially, the two previous Express Entry draws had issued 4,750 ITAs; this time, the trend continues with the same number of invitations. Additionally, each invitation round witnessed a decline in CRS score by two or three points.
NOC- the latest changes
IRCC updated the NOC 2016 with the NOC 2021 as per the norm of updating the structure every ten years. The new system of National Occupation Classification comprises new categories based on the TEER system instead of the previous skill levels. This new system includes Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibility, with five TEERS.
NOC-2016 | NOC-2021 |
---|---|
Skill Type 0 | TEER 0 |
Skill Level A | TEER 1 |
Skill Level B | TEER 2 |
Skill Level B | TEER 3 |
Skill Level C | TEER 4 |
Skill Level D | TEER 5 |
The latest NOC update with the TEER system comprises 16 new eligible occupations under Express Entry. Conversely, three earlier eligible occupations have become ineligible; however, these are now eligible under Provincial Nominee Programs.
Specific sectors undergoing massive challenges due to a shortage of skilled labor, such as healthcare, tech, and truck drivers, remain the new occupations’ chief targets.
Also given below are the 16 additional occupations under the NOC 2021:
- Payroll administrators
- Dental laboratory assistants and Dental Assistants
- Sheriffs and bailiffs
- Patient service associates, Orderlies, and Nurse Aids
- Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacy Technical Assistants
- Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
- Correctional service officers
- By-law enforcement officers and regulatory officers
- Residential and commercial installers and servicers
- Estheticians, electrologists, and other related occupations
- Pest controllers and fumigators
- Other repairers and servicers
- Transport truck drivers
- Bus drivers, subway operators, and other transit operators
- Heavy equipment operators
- Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
Upcoming Express Entry changes in 2023
The latter part of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 will continue with the same process. Moreover, the CRS points will continue to determine the invitations sent.
According to Bill C-19, IRCC will authorize holding targeted draws. Furthermore, the parameters of sending ITAs will differ with different draws and depend on financial requirements.
Additionally, Sean Fraser recently claimed that new permanent residents would be successful through these targeted draws. Besides this, such draws will also help bridge the labor shortage gap.
Express Entry
To summarize, Express Entry handles the digital immigration application system through its critical programs: the CEC, FSTP, and the FSWP. Hence, this system operates under the Comprehensive Ranking System and issues scores to candidates achieving higher scores. Candidates further receive invitations to apply for Canadian PR. Overall, an immigration officer reviews the application and determines the application status. Therefore, the applicant becomes a Canadian permanent resident after receiving approval for the application.
