Canada’s interim work authorization letter will have 180 days of validity for international graduates waiting to get a final decision on the work permit application. In short, the work authorization letters will now have a validity period of 180 days instead of the earlier 120 days. The validity period begins on the day of application submission.
Canada’s interim work authorization letter to have 180 days validity – What are these work authorization letters?
IRCC issues these interim work authorization letters to confirm that an international graduate can begin working before their work permit application attains a final decision. International graduates working full-time without a work permit can receive these documents while they wait to receive a final decision on the work permit application. However, this applies to graduates applying for a work permit before their study permit’s expiry. Also, they must fulfill eligibility requirements when applying, as it will enable them to start working before getting a decision on their work permit application from IRCC.
Eligibility conditions for international graduates to receive an interim work letter
International graduates who seek to work before submitting their Post-Graduation Work Permit must fulfill the following conditions:
- Hold a valid study permit at the time of submission of the work permit application.
- Have completed their study program.
- Have fulfilled off-campus work requirements without a work permit, such as the following:
- They have been full-time students at a Designated Learning Institution.
- They were admitted to a post-secondary academic vocational or professional training program of a minimum duration of eight months.
- Have acquired a degree, diploma, or certificate after completing their course.
- The candidates didn’t surpass the permissible working hours for Canada’s full-time students between November 15, 2022, and April 30, 2024. International students could work over 20 hours per week, according to IRCC’s temporary public policy.
Applicants having an interim work authorization letter must continue working in Canada even after departing and coming back to the country. However, candidates must possess a temporary resident visa to do the above. In addition, an interim work authorization letter doesn’t indicate a travel document.
What about a pending application decision even after 180 days?
IRCC confirms that if an application decision is still pending even after 180 days, applicants might ask for uninterrupted work authorization proof from IRCC. Candidates can accomplish this through the IRCC web form.
