Canada’s job vacancies remain near a record high

As per the recent data, the total number of job vacancies remains at 874,700 in Canada. Statistics Canada reported the data.

The November figures revealed that the number went down by 9.3% from October. However, it still remained significantly higher than the pre-pandemic levels. Furthermore, the last two months also witnessed a decline in the total, but it is still 72% above the end of 2019.

As per the reported info, the job vacancy situation, which evaluates open positions as a percent of all vacant and filled positions, was 5.1% in November. It was up 2.1 percentage points from before the outbreak.

In the same month, the transportation/warehousing sector witnessed an all-time high of 51,500 job doorways. The vacancy rate for the particular industry was at 6.2 percent. The maximum monthly rate since the report was first collected in 2020.

High job openings also affect other sectors such as accommodation and food services, construction, and medicine/healthcare.

Job openings for the accommodation and food services companies declined by 11.7 percent to 130,100. Even after the steep, the sector had a 9.9% vacancy rate.

The number of openings in the medical sector was 119,600, with a vacancy rate of 5.2 percent.

There were 67,800 job gaps in the construction sector, with a rate of 5.6 percent when the data was reported.

The number of job listings witnessed a reduction in six provinces compared to the previous month. The biggest declines happened in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Quebec. However, Manitoba saw a record high. They had 27,300 job openings, despite the fact that their vacancy rate of 4.5 percent was less than the nationwide average of 5.1 percent.

Statistics Canada also reported the payroll survey data. According to the report 37,200 positions were fulfilled in November, up 0.4 percent from pre-pandemic values.

The service sector, including accommodation and food services, public sectors, scientific, and tech consulting, saw the most significant growth in November 2021. As per the report, many of the organizations expanded their capacity and manpower requirements during the end of October and the beginning of November, helping in an expansion in jobs.

The majority of the companies in the construction sectors in maple country have returned to or went beyond their pre-pandemic job rates.

During November 2021, per week hours and wages were somewhat unchanged. The average salary earner worked roughly 31 hours. For salaried workers, it stood at 37 hours. Average wages amounted to $1,131/week.
