Canada’s PNP status after completing a month in 2022

Canada was able to send out around 4500 invites to apply for a nomination under Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) in January 2022.

PNP is conducted by all three levels of government in the country; federal, provincial, and territorial. That allows provinces/territories to curate the stream in a way that helps them fulfil their labour market requirements. As a result, the majority of the regions in Canada have their economic stability sustained because of PNP. Many small provinces such as Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan rely on PNP only to meet their labour force requirements.

It is estimated that between now and the completion of the next year, PNP will help transit around 80,000 applicants to permanent residency.

Express Entry-backed PNP

The majority of the provinces that take part in PNP have at least one of the streams aligned to the federal immigration system, Express Entry. Express Entry manages the three federal programs; the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

PNPs that are aligned to Express Entry have the option to select an applicant from the federal pool if they match their requirements and have an interest in moving to the province. They can allow the applicant to request a nomination.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is not conducting draws for FSWP, CEC, and FSTP applicants. The efforts have been taken to downsize the backlog. However, since PNPs are required to fulfill urgent requirements of the provinces, IRCC has made sure to conduct a draw every two weeks.

Last month, IRCC sent 1,428 invites under PNP by conducting two draws.

Alberta

The province conducted two draws under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program and presented the data recently. According to the data, they sent 150 invites on 14th December and 250 on 5th January.

On 13th January, they also revealed Accelerated Tech Pathway for tech professionals. This is advantageous for experts working in the maple country or having a job offer. Furthermore, they should also be aligned with the needs of the Alberta Express Entry stream.

British Columbia

The province uses the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program to send invites. They do it almost every week. The invitee has an option to choose from Express Entry British Columbia, Skills Immigration, as well as the Tech stream, based on their area of expertise. The province successfully sent 714 invites in the last month.

Manitoba

The province conducts mainly with three major streams under PNP. They are:

  1. Skilled Workers in Manitoba
  2. Skilled Workers Overseas, and
  3. International Education Stream

Last month, Manitoba was able to send 758 invites. Out of the total, 166 invites were sent to applicants having profiles under the Express Entry pool.

Ontario

The province was able to conduct three draws in January. It utilizes Ontario’s Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to send invites under various sub-categories. On 11th January, they sent 1,084 invites. The draw was conducted under Employer Job Offer Category to send invites to Foreign Worker, International Student, and In-Demand Skills stream applicants. On the next day, they conducted another draw to send 502 invites. That was only for 18 targeted professions.

The last draw was conducted on 27th January to send 1,032 invites. The Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream was utilized to conduct the last one.

So the total tally stands at 2,618 for Ontario in January.

Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is utilized once a month. Their draws are pre-scheduled. The first draw of the year was conducted on 20th January to invite 132 applicants. They were all from the Labour Impact, Express Entry streams and the Business Impact stream.

Saskatchewan

The province conducted a draw on 6th January. The draw was for the entrepreneur category and sent invites to 51 applicants. On 13th January, they conducted another draw to send 104 invites. The draw was conducted for the two sub-categories of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP); Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand.
