Canadian immigrant’s success- a detailed study

Canadian immigrant’s success can be measured through various factors of the Express Entry system.

A Statistics Canada report recently revealed the factors affecting the selection of Canadian immigrants. This report was an updated version of the 2015 Express Entry CRS system investigation. Moreover, the Comprehensive Ranking System evaluates foreign workers’ skills and potential through IRCC.

This detailed study looked into the patterns and characteristics of the immigration group between 2005 to 2015. Hence, the study even revealed essential earning patterns of the immigrants in Canada at the landing time. The short-term was from one to two years, the medium-term was from five to six-year, and the long-term was from 10 to 11 years.

The chief characteristics of the landing include the following:

  • Considerable pre-landing work experience in Canada compared to individuals with zero experience.
  • Language abilities in official languages: French or English.
  • Age- Younger, from 25 to 29 years, and older, from 50 to 54 years.
  • Education- Bachelor’s education to Secondary school education.

Canadian immigrant’s success- impact on short-term earnings

  • Pre-landing work experience in Canada provided a solid estimate of the immigrant’s earnings. Additionally, this estimate revealed the earnings in the first two years of immigrating to the country. Besides this, Canadian work experience every year equaled an increase of 84 percent in revenues.
  • Language proficiency also impacts the earnings of immigrants. Individuals who didn’t have their mother tongue as English and French but just spoke English had revenues of around 29 percent less. The estimate is true compared to those who had English or French as their mother tongue.
  • Bachelor’s degree and an education background depicting 25 years of schooling earned between 12 to 24 percent in the short term.

Immigrants in Canada- medium-term earnings

According to the study, those individuals with medium-term earnings faced the impact through the following:

  • Individuals with pre-landing work experience in Canada accounted for a 52-59 percent rise in earnings.
  • Language proficiency also remained one of the factors affecting medium-term earnings. Individuals with the official language as their mother tongue also earned at least 42 percent more than those who didn’t.
  • As per the study, older immigrants earned less compared to younger immigrants. The percentage accounts for 27 to 35 percent.
  • Also, as far as education is concerned, the graduates with Bachelor’s degrees accounted for increased earnings by 14 to 21 percent.

 Long-term earnings- Canadian immigrant’s success

The following factors affected long-term immigrants:

  • Pre-landing work experience in Canada remains the most vital and impactful factor. It accounts for at least a 45 percent increase for one year of Canadian work experience.
  • There is a 44 percent increase in earnings of young immigrants compared to older immigrants. This data remains accurate even after the landing from 10 to 11 years.
  • People with reduced language proficiency in the official languages accounted for 35 percent.
  • Education up to Bachelor’s degree played a crucial role in increased earnings of 23 percent.

Overall Impact

The previous years for Canadian immigrants displayed that the negative impact of age on landing increased, whereas the positive impact of education also increased. However, the positive impacts of both language proficiency and Canadian work experience witnessed a gradual decline.

Pre-landing earnings

According to the latest study by Statistics Canada, pre-landing earnings proved to be the strongest variable for short, long, and medium-term earnings. Pre-landing earnings include a wide range of factors such as language proficiency, education, and pre-landing work experience. An immigrant’s earnings largely depend upon his pre-landing work experience specifically Canadian work experience.

Impact of study on Canadian immigration

The study is the latest version of the earlier published study of 2015. Moreover, the latest update in this study will help Express Entry candidates in applying for streams such as the Federal Skilled Workers Program, Canadian Experience Class, and the FSTP. Additionally, understanding the results of the study will help them become aware of the primary immigrant traits during the evaluation. This means the weightage given to Pre-landing Canadian work experience and age. The study also comprises other CRS factors such as language ability and education.

Skilled workers are eligible for Express Entry and they can further apply for Provincial Nominee Program. They can settle in Canada and also acquire Canadian PR. Candidates can also receive 600 extra CRS points through Enhanced Provincial Nomination.
