Canadian provinces held recent PNP draws

Canadian provinces, including Ontario and PEI,  recently held the Provincial Nomination Program draws.

Usually, through the PNPs, several interested and eligible candidates receive invitations to apply for a provincial nomination. However, Quebec and Nunavut don’t fall under this category of provinces. Provincial nomination is different from permanent residence and acts as a step toward obtaining a PR status from IRCC. Quebec’s immigration programs significantly differ from Canadian immigration programs. Quebec independently governs and supervises its immigration programs. It is by far the only Canadian province with official authority to look into economic class immigrants.

Every year a minimum of 80,000 permanent residence admissions take place. The process began in 1988 and gradually gained momentum with increasing PNP admissions each year. Moreover, the provincial and federal governments considered PNP a useful medium through which the economy could develop. PNP’s focus was on those provinces that didn’t have an adequate number of immigrants compared to heavily populated urban centers.

Two provinces in Canada, including Ontario and Prince Edward Island, conducted the PNP draws. Have a brief look at their results.

Ontario

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program sent invitations to 545 candidates from Post-Graduation Stream. They had to meet a standard score of 35 and above. It sent ITAs to 106 candidates under the Ph.D. Graduate stream with a minimum score of 24 points. Both the streams held the draws for the first time after August 30.

To gain eligibility for these two streams, candidates must meet the following minimum eligibility conditions:

  • They must possess a master’s degree from an eligible Ontario university.
  • CLB requirement of 7 scores or above in French and English.
  • Must have at least one year of legal living experience in Canada in the previous two years.

Ontario is one of the famous Canadian provinces welcoming the maximum number of immigrants annually. It also comprises the largest distribution of ITAs for any available Canadian PNP. Ontario managed to send 9,75o invitations to eligible candidates in 2022.

Prince Edward Island

PEI sent invitations to 194 candidates on October 20 under the Labor and Express Entry streams whereas it also sent 10 ITAs to candidates through the stream of Business Work Permit Entrepreneur. The total number of ITAs sent accounts for 204. The latter stream required the candidates to achieve a score of 72.

Additionally, candidates under Express Entry who seek a nomination by Prince Edward Island will require to submit an EOI directly to the PEI Provincial Nominee Program.

The EOI profiles receive scores based on the grid system of PEI, which is similar to the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS provides invitations to the top scorers during the monthly draws. PEI conducts its draws through the PEI PNP.
