Does Canada aim to invite 500,000 immigrants every year?

Immigration minister Mr. Sean Fraser believes that Canada will move beyond the immigration levels of 500,000 per year and that too at a faster pace than expected. However, Sean Fraser also warned that the increase in these immigration figures should adhere to the community’s needs as a support to the country.

Last week, the immigration minister even attended a speaking session Collision in Toronto.

Canada wants to welcome 430,000 immigrants each year

When the pandemic hadn’t emerged, Canada looked forward to welcoming 340,000 immigrants each year but the immigration levels fell because of the pandemic in 2020. There were several travel restrictions and the government officials in Canada were required to work remotely.

Canada announced its expectation to welcome at least 400,000 immigrants annually from early 2021 to recover the economy post-pandemic.

Fraser had announced Canada’s immigration level plans for 2022 to 2024. Canada currently aims to welcome 430,000 new immigrants every year and also has a target of receiving 450,000 by 2024.

500,000 new permanent residents each year for the upcoming immigration level plan 2023-2025

Fraser will be announcing the immigration level plan 2023-2025 along with the upgraded targets for the same. Even though Fraser seeks to increase the immigration level to 500,000 new immigrants each year, he didn’t comment on it with accuracy. He believes that they will reach the target sooner and that they’re on the right track for the same. He couldn’t state the exact time it would take for them to achieve the 500,000 per year target as it will depend on the needs of the community.

Mr. Sean Fraser doesn’t believe in focusing on simply increasing the target to 500,000 each year. But he seems more interested in providing wider opportunities by meeting the requirements of the communities through the immigration system.

According to Mr. Fraser, welcoming new immigrants will provide enhanced opportunities. It is crucial to note that welcoming newcomers shouldn’t drain the capacity of the communities. As far as the accommodation is not exceeded, including the immigrants will prove as a beneficial strategy for Canada.

Fraser to provide equal importance and support to newcomers and Canadians

Canada aims to offer broader support, and infrastructure to the newcomers and the already existing Canadians. Fraser even responded to queries regarding Canada’s potential to provide proper infrastructure to the new arrivals as well as the Canadians. He answered that he is considering the above issue with his colleague in Ottawa.
