Express Entry draws will resume this week after a month’s pause

Express Entry draws will resume this week after a month’s pause. According to IRCC, toward this week’s end, it will send invitations to candidates for transport occupations under the new Express Entry category-based selection draws. The last time the Express Entry draw occurred was on August 15, as it was an all-program draw. The draw issued invitations to 43,00 candidates with the lowest CRS score of 496.

Typically, candidates in an all-program draw receive invitations only if they exist in the Express Entry pool and meet the lowest CRS score.

Express Entry draws will resume this week – transport occupations’ draw is likely to occur

IRCC confirmed on September 18 that it will issue invitations to those who fulfill all the requirements for the transport occupations’ category-based selection draws later this week.

This transport occupation category will include aircraft assembly workers, pilots, and truck drivers. These positions will help combat the existing economic challenges and boost the economy.

Marc Miller stated that with the growing Canadian economy, the government will also look forward to enhancing the transport and infrastructure to meet the safe and flawless movement of goods and people throughout Canada.

The new categories of Express Entry enable them to select candidates with experience in specific occupations. This selection for transport occupations will help Canada invite candidates with work experience in transport occupations to combat labor shortages. Furthermore, it will ensure that Canada’s transport sector attains success.

Defining the Category-based selection draws

Canadian government updated the IRPA on June 22, 2022, to start the selection of candidates on the basis of characteristics that will fulfill Canada’s economic objectives. This whole process began on May 31, 2022, when IRCC launched its six new categories for Express Entry category-based draws. One of the categories targets those candidates with solid French language skills. The five categories target in-demand occupations presently experiencing a skilled labor shortage.

  • Healthcare
  • Trades – Carpenters, Contractors and Plumbers
  • STEM Professions
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food
  • Transport

After the launch of these new categories, IRCC conducted two draws. One was for healthcare professions, the other was for STEM professions, one was for skilled trades, and three were for French-speaking individuals. The Express Entry new category draws have issued 10,900 invitations to candidates until now in 2023.

IRCC claims that these category-based draws will eventually lead Canada to welcome global tech talent and fulfill the demand for transport workers to boost the economy.

Globe and Mail reported recently that transport occupations will contribute one to two percent each for these category-based draws.
