The province of Nova Scotia is now accepting applications of immigration from the foodservice sector via its Occupations in Demand program.
The foodservice sector witnessed the downfall during the pandemic This was the reason Canada faced labor shortages in the sector, and Nova Scotia was no stranger to this.
3 new qualified occupations to the Occupation in Demand Immigration stream to address the issue in Nova Scotia.
- NOC 6711(food counter attendants, kitchen helpers, and related services)
- NOC 6513 (Food and beverage servers)
- NOC 6731 (Light duty cleaners)
In a media release, it was said that the employers of Canada will not need an LMIA, also adding to this the release further said that the employee will not need to work for 6 months prior to sending in their application in the Nova Scotia PNP.
Jill Balser the immigration minister of Nova Scotia said “we’re excited to welcome new immigrants who can help employers meet the labor requirements and grow the population of the province” he further added to the release “The tourism, restaurant and the hospitality sectors are an asset to the economy and are also very critical. The changes in these sectors will benefit them and will be able to help employers hire more staff as the holiday season is about to start”
The program is targeting specific jobs that directly fall under Skill levels C and D in the NOC. The skills have been called “low-skilled” and “unskilled” jobs for the longest of time. However, since the pandemic, the jobs are being referred to as “essential”.

Occupations in demand eligibility criteria.
To apply for the provincial nomination in Nova Scotia via the Occupations in Demand program, the applicant needs to have a full-time job offer in any of the listed jobs:
- NOC 3413 (Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates)
- NOC 6513 (Food and beverage servers)
- NOC 6711 (Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations)
- NOC 6731 (Light duty cleaners)
- NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers),
- NOC 7521 (Heavy equipment operators (except crane)), or
- NOC 7611 (Construction trades helpers and labors)
Work experience of one year and age requirement of 21-55 is needed at the time of applying.
A high school diploma, training in the skills, and accreditation for the job will be needed, other than this you will also have to prove your language ability by scoring at least four in the Canadian Language Benchmark or CLB preferably in English or French.
A proof of your financial stability will be needed as proof in order to settle in the province.
