Four Canadian provinces invited candidates in PNP draws recently. These include Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Prince Edward Island. All the provinces and territories in Canada operate through a Provincial Nominee Program. However, Quebec and Nunavut remain exceptions for this.
Provincial governments have the right to choose economic class candidates through the PNP. This way, they are able to select candidates who will contribute significantly to the Canadian economy by establishing themselves within the Canadian culture and workforce.
Additionally, PNP candidates will likely be chosen through an in-demand skill that they possess. For instance, most provinces conduct draws that choose appropriate candidates working in certain professions. This could be the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway for Alberta’s Express Entry candidates. Also, they might receive invitations based on their French language capabilities. This could be the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s French-Speaking Skilled Workers.
A majority of PNPs also possess streams for International Graduates in Ontario to motivate the retention of international students.
Once Ontario chooses candidates, they must issue them nominations for IRCC for the status of Canadian permanent status. A provincial nomination does not lead to permanent residence for candidates, but it does solidify the Express Entry applications for those receiving an extra 600 points. These points will add to their scores under the Comprehensive Ranking System for a nomination. This score will be added to the original score.
