Sean Fraser talked about the new measures such as the improved online services catering to clients so that they can experience reduced backlogs.
Due to the pandemic, IRCC felt the need for a better and more modernized immigration system. Fraser recently discussed the impact of digitization on the function of IRCC.
Future citizens and new immigrants will witness an improved immigration system with the latest developments taking place.
New measures in the Canadian immigration system
The new developments are as follows:
Specific applicants inside Canada to be exempt from medical exams
Fraser is granting permission to permanent and temporary resident applications already residing in Canada to opt out of medical examination for immigration. However, this exemption applies to those who fulfill the specific criteria. He is yet to reveal the specific criteria. Also, the time of introduction of this new measure is still uncertain. IRCC aims to create a positive impact with this introduction on over 180,000 newcomers.
Canada had even previously temporarily gotten rid of the medical examination. The exemption happened between June 2021 and March 2022.
As per official reports, the measure has the objective of lessening the waiting times. The target is to add at least 1,250 new employees to speed up the processing time.
Immigration application’s absolute digitization
IRCC is implementing one of the most significant measures ultimately. This transition will happen by September 23.
Those individuals requiring accommodation will have access to different formats. The act of making all immigration applications digital began in January.
Application trackers to be made available for several programs
At least seven permanent and temporary residence programs will get the application trackers. The application trackers will be similar to the ones which were introduced in February for sponsorship applicants concerning spouse, partner, and dependent children.
The citizenship application tracker was introduced in May 2021. Its expansion will give access to representatives this month itself.
IRCC aims to provide accurate information through the tool of online processing time. IRCC will also provide information regarding the estimated processing times on its official website from October onwards.
Canadian citizenship- from a modern perception
IRCC introduced a new tool in August last year. The tool was an effort by the department to permit specific online applications of citizenship for online submission. The tool applies to an adult age group of 18 years and above to apply collectively. IRCC aims for online tool expansion for minors under 18 years toward the latter part of 2022.
Canada is doing amazingly well in terms of its citizenship goals (2021to 2022) by welcoming over 217,000 new citizens. This year, Canada witnessed more than 116,000 newcomers compared to 35,000 in the previous year between April and July.
2022 welcomed 300,000 new permanent citizens to Canada
Last year, Canada broke its record by welcoming over 405,000 new permanent residents to the country. In 2022, the target remained to welcome at least 431,000 permanent residents. The objective is to meet all the targets systematically. Until August 22, Canada has admitted at least 300,000 permanent residents encompassing the previous milestones set in 2021.
Immigration confers to individuals. It implies beginning a new job, a family reunion as well as creating a better life in the country. Fraser believes that all the measures taken by the government center around the satisfaction of their clients. They are introducing new-age technology to modernize the Canadian immigration system for the people and clients. They are bringing in more resources so that they can improvise the immigration system. Making the immigration process faster and simplified is at the heart of all the initiatives they are beginning to take.
