Global Talent Stream- hiring foreign talent

Global Talent Stream is a program that can fast-track the process of hiring highly skilled foreign national workers in the tech industry. This program provides significant opportunities for people to apply their skills to the growth of creative Canadian companies.

GTS is a program that works toward providing faster processing of work permit applications or temporary residence visas. This helps the qualifying participants to continue working within two weeks of submitting the application. This program falls under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program and forms an intrinsic and crucial part of the Global Talent Strategy. GTS primarily aims toward providing appropriately skilled workers to the tech industry so that they can speed up their recruitment process.

Global Talent Stream- two major exemptions

The Global Stream consists of two major exemptions that make it possible for specific applicants to come to Canada devoid of a work permit. They’re as follows:

  • NOC skill level type O or A- high-skilled workers in this category won’t require a work permit. However, they must currently work in Canada for 15 days per six months or 30 days per 12 months.
  • Additionally, researchers gaining Canadian work experience for 120 days per 12 months will not require a Canadian work permit. They must be working on publicly funded research projects at either an institution offering degrees or a research institute that is affiliated.

GTS- its primary categories

The Global Talent Stream significantly comprises two categories:

Category A

  • Digital Media and Design Workers

Global Talent Stream- its wages

Both the above categories require employers to provide specific wages to the hired workers. This implies when an employer hires a foreign talent under the Global Talent Stream, he will have to pay fair wages to them.

Employers must provide them wages per the following five rates:

  • The wage is listed on the Canadian government’s job bank for that specific job role.
  • They must give the employees similar wages, which they pay to their present working employees. These wages will depend upon the exact location, same designation, and skills or experience.
  • The Global Talent Occupations list displays the minimum wage range in Category B.
  • Salary based on hours aligns perfectly with the occupation’s present wage. This salary must be at least $80,000. (including the first two positions under Category A).

For more than two occupation positions, an hourly salary of at least $150,000 aligns perfectly with the current wages.

Contribution of GTS toward Canada and its citizens

The GTS program requires employers to develop a Labour Market Benefits Plan. LMBP aligns with the ESDC and justifies the upcoming contribution of the hired skilled foreign worker toward the Canadian labor market.

A and B categories will consist of employers involved in business activities to fulfill two labor market benefits. These benefits are the following:

  • Providing information to Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Working on enhancing the company’s performance.
