Identifying candidates most likely to get Express Entry ITA in 2023

Identifying candidates most likely to get Express Entry ITA in 2023 is a complete process and involves various factors. To understand the above, we must look into the details of the previous records. The Canadian government has revealed new data on human capital profiles that have received the maximum amount of Express Entry ITAs between January and September 2023.

Canada issued ITAs to 53,455 Express Entry candidates in the above period. However, this excludes the data of ITAs issued in October under Express Entry. In October, an extra number of ITAs, around 9,173, were sent to candidates.

To display the number of ITAs by program, province, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, age, and occupation, there are multiple categories for these numbers.

Express Entry tackles the applications of candidates under any of its three chief programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the FSTP, and CEC.

This application system also partially supervises the candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program.

Each program comprises a separate eligibility criterion. However, all candidates must undergo evaluation and achieve a rank through the Comprehensive Ranking System. This CRS system provides a score to candidates based on their human characteristics. These include work experience, age, education, and language proficiency.

The data also acknowledges candidates with a Provincial Nomination. A Provincial Nomination, by default, adds an extra 600 points under the CRS score of a candidate with an Express Entry profile.

The candidates most likely to get an ITA under Express Entry in 2023 include CEC candidates in their twenties working as Software Engineers or those seeking to live in Ontario.

ITAs by program

A majority of candidates under the Canadian Experience Class received the maximum number of ITAs in the initial nine months this year. Most CEC candidates possess at least one year of work experience. In addition, they meet the language proficiency of IRCC. Overall, 23,910 candidates under CEC received an Invitation to Apply. This accounts for 45 percent of all ITAs.

The second highest number of invitations were sent to candidates under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. This implies nearly 30 percent of all invitations, with nearly 15,855. The Provincial Nominee Program’s candidates received the third-highest number of invitations, with 13,655 ITAs. This indicates 26 percent of all invitations to apply.

However, the Federal Skilled Trades Program didn’t see any ITAs being issued to candidates.

The primary occupations

Several occupations coincided with one another as they received the highest number of invitations based on each program. Overall, Software Engineers gained the top five professions for the following three programs:

Canadian Experience Class

  • 1,725 – Software engineers and designers
  • 1,745 – Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  •  1,375 – Information systems analysts and consultants
  • 1,240 – CEC Food Service Supervisors
  • 855 – Administrative assistants

Federal Skilled Worker Program

  • 650 – Financial auditors and accountants
  • 570 – Dentists
  • 565 – Software engineers and designers
  • 505 – Professional occupations in advertising, marketing, and public relations
  • 420 – Database analysts and data administrators

Provincial Nominee Program

  • 970 – Other occupations
  • 820 – Software engineers and designers
  • 615 – Information systems analysts and consultants
  • 595 – Computer programmers and interactive media developers
  • 420 – Welders and related machine operators

ITAs by CRS Score

Nearly 26,070 Express Entry candidates comprised a CRS score between 451 and 500. On the other hand, 11,640 candidates scored between the CRS range of 501 and 600. In addition, only 225 candidates under Express Entry acquired an ITA between 701 and 800. Furthermore, 790 candidates got a score between 801 and 900.

Notably, over 7,7550 candidates under Express Entry received a CRS score between 901 and 1,000. Out of these candidates, nearly 5,040 possessed scores above 1,000. Receiving a Provincial Nomination is the only method through which they might attain an additional 600 CRS score. This in itself lets you score 600 points out of the maximum 1,200 CRS score.

ITAs by province

Over 50 percent of all Express Entry candidates were either residing in Ontario or intended to live there. The data depicts that 31,550 candidates received ITAs. The second-highest number of candidates with ITAs belonged to British Columbia. Contrarily, candidates received 5,280 ITAs in Alberta. Nova Scotia candidates received 1,595 invitations to apply. The rest of the Canadian provinces had lesser than 1,500 invitations.

ITAs by Age

A majority of candidates who received the maximum number of invitations belonged to the age group between 19 and 29. Overall, 28,970 candidates in their twenties got invitations to apply.

According to Statistics Canada’s longitudinal analysis, younger applicants receive a higher CRS score from the IRCC because they have more time to adjust to life in Canada and the work market.

According to a Statistics Canada study, one of the best indicators of an immigrant’s ability to integrate into the job market is their age. Younger arrivals typically have more time to become fluent in French or English, obtain Canadian work experience, and build a professional network in Canada. One 20–29-year-old Express Entry candidate earns 110 CRS points. One contestant, who is 19 years old, is awarded 105 points.

Express Entry immigration targets

While more than the 37,335 total invited in 2022, the number of Express Entry candidates invited between January and September 2023 still falls short of the 108,105 in 2021.

The pandemic made the last two years exceptional. To help reach its objective of landing over 400,000 immigrants during the pandemic, including border constraints, IRCC raised ITAs to CEC applicants in 2021. However, because of the backlog and slower service standards caused by this, the IRCC decided to reduce Express Entry ITAs in 2022.

Most of the ITAs since the epidemic have gone to applicants in the Canadian Experience Class. The FSWP was the top ITA program before the epidemic.

IRCC has established a goal of 110,770 annual admissions of permanent residents to Canada under Express Entry programs in 2024; this number will increase to 117,500 in 2025 and 2026. Because successful Express Entry candidates are permitted to arrive with their partners and children as long as they meet IRCC requirements, the number of ITAs issued is typically less than the number of admissions.
