International Student Integrity will solidify through new initiatives per the declaration by Marc Miller. He even claimed that he couldn’t agree with restricting the number of international student admissions in Canada. However, he even revealed about the verification of the Letter of Acceptance that the potential international students would require for a study permit application.
International Student Integrity will solidify through new initiatives
Additionally, the Canadian government will also progress with the Recognized Institutions Framework for Canada’s Designated Learning Institution by October 2024. These DLIs are a collection of colleges, educational institutions, and universities that help bring international students. Essentially, these DLIs are authorized by the provincial or territorial governments.
The entire framework will offer international students with better outcomes, support, and an enhanced standard of services.
The logic is that DLIs that fulfill specific eligibility requirements could access certain advantages. This could imply that IRCC will prioritize the processing of study permit applications.
Furthermore, Miller even confirmed sharing detailed information concerning the recognition process of institutions and the benefits of this. He even declared that IRCC will hold the Post-Graduation Work Permit’s first review in the upcoming ten years.
According to him, the chief objective is to rectify the PGWP in order to combat existing labor shortages within the Canadian market. This will eventually address the economic needs as well as Francophone immigration objectives and the regional challenges.
Canada will welcome 900,000 international students in 2023
Canada has maintained its reputation as the world’s leading country for international students. In 2022, the country brought forth a path-breaking number of international students from 184 countries, implying 551,405 international students.
Toward the end of 2022, nearly 807,750 international students held eligible Canadian study permits. In the previous 15 years, Canada’s international students have increased four times due to an increased number of middle-class people pursuing education abroad. Besides, the other factors attract international students in specific areas like educational quality, employment opportunities, and immigration pathways.
Last year, the international students primarily belonged to different countries like India, China, and the Philippines. The following number of students came from these countries:
- India – 226,450 international students.
- 52,165 international students from China.
- 23,280 international students from the Philippines.
Overall, the topmost destinations emerged as British Columbia, with 164,000 international students, and Ontario welcomed 411,00 international students.
Marc Miller even affirmed that Canada aims to welcome nearly 900,000 international students in 2023.
Canada’s government seeks to provide a significant number of study permits. IRCC issued over 280,000 new study permits between January and June 2023. This implies a nearly 77 percent increase in study permits compared to 2022.
Canada’s senate members revealed international student’s integrity in their report
International student integrity was in the limelight due to a recent report published on September 20 by Canada’s Senate’s four members.
The report focused on the advantages of international students arriving in Canada. Moreover, Canada’s social and cultural landscape, along with the prominent issues of the international student’s integrity, came to light through the report.
The middlemen in other countries act on behalf of international students in the name of being “educational agents.” They even played a significant role in sacrificing Canada’s international student’s integrity.
As a result, several educational agents might lead international students into a post-secondary program that doesn’t qualify for a post-graduate work permit.
A program’s completion that doesn’t imply a graduate’s eligibility for a PGWP can be a waste of time and money. This eventually means that the graduate will not be able to gain Canadian permanent residence or even work in this country.
Miller’s former statements reveal the issues related to integrity
Ever since Miller became the Canadian immigration minister, he discussed the integrity of international students in detail many times. He further discussed the crucial challenges of integrity with respect to the present visa process for international students throughout Canada.
He claimed that the false promises of the actors were misleading international students. IRCC has already realized the need to overcome these challenges. Moreover, he even discussed the integrity issues before CIMM.
