IRCC adopted a new approach for processing times’ calculation as it will now officially post the expected processing timelines digitally. The department will analyze the forward-looking timelines to do so. This way, they will be able to anticipate the duration of processing online applications.
IRCC adopted a new approach for processing times’ calculation
The revised processing times will be available for multiple increased immigration programs, such as the following:
- Canadian Experience Class
- Provincial Nominee Program
- Express Entry Federal Skilled Workers
- Citizenship grants
- Quebec Skilled Workers
- Citizenship Certificate
- Parents and grandparents
- Spouse or common-law partner residing in Canada
- Spouse or common-law partner residing outside Canada
Modifying the process of calculating processing times appeared as necessary per the Officer of the Auditor General report last October. Furthermore, the report gave a few recommendations to IRCC on the calculation of application processing times and conveyed this to potential clients.
Particularly, the report confirmed that candidates must have digital information on processing times for all PR applications. The service standard will vary based on the application type. For instance, the spousal sponsorship applications will have a service time of 12 months while an Express Entry’s PR application must take less than six months.
The work process of the forward-looking processing times
According to IRCC, this approach of calculating the anticipated times for issuance of final application decisions will depend upon the total number of pending applications and the number of applications IRCC expects to process. The department observed that this would rely on variables, such as admission spaces within the yearly Immigration Levels Plan, the ability to process applications, and seasonal updates in the application types received.
From the perspective of past records, IRCC has predicted the processing times. This means it has analyzed the time taken to process applications in the past and the final decision. According to the IRCC, the backward processing times are the foundation of the length taken to process 80 percent of applications in the past six months for PR programs. Similarly, it will be 8 to 16 weeks for temporary residence programs.
This strategy will apply to TR applications, including study permits, visitor visas, or work permits.
Will it be OK to reapply?
IRCC recommends that its clients not reapply if they have already applied to any programs based on the new processing time strategy. He claims that the processing of applications will happen in the same order they have been received. Moreover, in a majority of cases, applicants will not have to wait for more than the new forward-looking processing time for a decision.
