Category-based draws under Express Entry
Category-based draws will remain the same in 2024 as well. These types of draws started taking place in May last year. The categories are as follows:
- Healthcare occupations;
- STEM occupations;
- Transport occupations;
- Trades Occupations – Contractors, Plumbers, and Carpenters;
- Agriculture and Agri-Food occupations;
- Solid French language abilities
The categories result from the existing significant labor shortages and the immigration department’s mandate to promote the Francophone culture outside Quebec.
The Canadian government has been taking multiple initiatives to invite an increasing number of French-skilled immigrants. The Francophone culture is declining drastically in almost all regions of Canada, and so the government is pushing the French-speaking culture. The Official Languages Plan (2023-2038) has allocated more than $137.2 million over a period of five years to promote French-speaking immigrants in Canada.
Express Entry’s Application Process
The Canadian government utilizes the Express Entry system to handle applications for permanent residency in Canada. Express Entry utilizes the point system to rank candidates against one another by assigning scores to their profiles. The Express Entry application process is a two-step procedure. The foremost step is profile submission with the appropriate documents. The essential documents typically comprise language test outcomes, educational credentials, ETA, and passports.
Once you upload your profile and acquire an ITA to apply for Canadian PR, you must submit your final application to IRCC for review. The final application includes supporting documents, such as police clearance certificates, extra identity documents, medical exam results, and reference letters.
