IRCC issued 2850 ITAs in the recent Express Entry general draw

IRCC issued 2850 ITAs in the recent Express Entry general draw. The department sent invitations to 2,850 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 525. The Express Entry general program implies that candidates from all programs receive invitations. The latest all-program or general draw under Express Entry occurred on March 12. The lowest score under the Comprehensive Ranking System indicates that candidates either hold a score equal to 525 or higher than this cut-off.

In February, 16,110 candidates received invitations in six draws. Also, February began and ended with the French language category for candidates with solid French proficiency. The first draw occurred on February 1 and issued invitations to 7000 candidates with the lowest score of 365. The other draw occurred on February 29 and issued ITAs to 2,500 candidates, with the lowest CRS score cut-off of 336. This has been the lowest score of 2024 so far.

The rest of the four draws had two extra category-based selection draws. One draw was held on February 14 and issued 3,500 ITAs to candidates in the healthcare industry; the minimum CRS score cut-off was 422.

The other draw was held on February 16 and issued ITAs to 150 candidates in agriculture and agri-food occupations. The candidates in this sector required a minimum CRS score of 437.

Lastly, the immigration department conducted two Express Entry general draws in February. IRCC invited 1,490 candidates on February 13, with a minimum CRS score of 535. The department issued 1,470 ITAs to candidates in another general draw on February 28. The candidates displayed a minimum CRS score of 534.

Express Entry Category-Based Selection Draws

The Express Entry category draws focus on candidates with specific in-demand characteristics. These draws are in contrast with the standard draws. The general draws welcome candidates from all Express Entry programs. The category-based selection draws were brought forth in May last year to combat the current labor shortages and market gaps within the primary work sectors in Canada.

The following six categories might issue ITAs to qualifying Express Entry candidates:

  • Healthcare professions;
  • STEM occupations;
  • Trades occupations- Carpenters, Contractors, and Plumbers;
  • Transport professions;
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food professions;
  • Stronger French language skills

These draws could benefit candidates already existing in the Express Entry application pool. Comparing the CRS scores of general and category-based draws, the category-based draws had lower CRS scores than the general draws.

For instance, out of all the four category-based draws, the highest CRS score was 437, while the lowest was 336.

Overall, this year’s general draw didn’t see a CRS score lower than 525.

The Express Entry System

The Express Entry system is an application system for the purpose of Canadian immigration and utilizes points to tackle applications. It looks after the applications of skilled workers seeking to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. This system supervises three chief programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the CEC, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. When candidates submit their profiles, the CRS system provides them with scores based on human capital attributes. These factors include age, education, qualification, work experience, language skills, having siblings in Canada, etc.

All the above eligibility conditions decide their rank in the pool of Express Entry. The candidates who demonstrate the highest rank receive an ITA for Canadian PR application. After obtaining the invitation, they only get 60 days to submit their PR application to the immigration department.
