IRCC’s Canadian immigration strategies for Asia and the Americas

IRCC’s Canadian immigration strategies for Asia and the Americas are out now. The department looks forward to accomplishing its objectives for countries in Asia and America. This means it aims to partner with their governments to increase Canadian immigration by focusing on the economy and help for refugees and asylum seekers. As a result, there will be more emphasis on Canadian immigration pathways.

Asia

IRCC plans to protect the refugees and manage migration in Asia as its main objective. Reportedly, Asia comprises the highest number of immigrants who move to Canada as permanent residents or citizens. Therefore, IRCC seeks to carry out numerous initiatives with collaborated governments in the region to ensure that a more significant, standard immigration can happen in Canada.

Canada also plans to execute the extension of regular immigration pathways from Asia. Additionally, it will also maintain the coherence of the selection system.

The main objective of Canada is to focus on refugees and protection, keeping in mind the current priorities, such as Afghanistan situation, the Rohingya tragedy in Myanmar, Xinjiang’s genocide, China and Bangladesh crisis. Hence, Canada will look forward to supporting the population at risk.

Following are the partner countries with which Canada seeks to maintain relationships:

  • Afghanistan– Canada will take care of 40,000 refugees from Afghanistan as an initiative to help the refugees and populations at risk across the globe.
  • Bangladesh– Canada signed bilateral agreements with Bangladesh to enhance the immigration level and its quality, partnering with its government. Moreover, Canada’s objective of protecting refugees internationally also makes them deeply concerned regarding the condition of Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh.
  • China– Canada is on good terms with China and looks forward to strengthening the economic ties and increasing the immigration size and quality to promote regular immigration. This is also due to the existing relations between China and the USA.
  • India– Canada is particularly hopeful of improving the quality of immigration in India. IRCC determines to strengthen and promote economic and social connections with India inclining toward Canadian interests. Additionally, the department plans to increase immigration size and quality along with maintaining the integrity of the program in India.
  • Pakistan– The overall aim of Canada is to encourage more immigration from Pakistan. The country is keen on working with the government to relieve victims of the Afghanistan crisis.
  • The Philippines– IRCC seeks to collaborate with the Philippines government to encourage more legal immigration between the Philippines and Canada. Meanwhile, this is how Filipinos will get access to regular immigration.

The Americas

In the Americas, IRCC emphasizes engaging with chief partners to enhance the immigration level in the region. Additionally, it will focus to share its expertise on immigration with other countries and also build stronger local protections. It will significantly work on promoting regular immigration for better social and economic objectives.

Canada will continue to provide more protection to refugees and at-risk populations as its global initiative. In accordance with the refugee resettlement commitment, Canada will be welcoming 700 to 800 refugees in 2023, while it is likely to receive at least 1,000 in 2024.

  • Brazil– Canada plans to maintain its bilateral agreements and economic connections with Brazil. It will continue with the immigration programs and increase immigration and will keep making efforts to improve the processing.
  • Columbia– The main aim of Canada will be to continue with the regular immigration pathways within Columbia and encourage the officials to interrogate irregular immigrants. Besides this, it will also emphasize helping asylum seekers and refugees from Venezuela.
  • Haiti– The main focus of Canada will be to help refugees and those looking for shelter in asylums from Haiti and encourage regular immigration for those wanting to immigrate to Canada.
  • Mexico– Canada’s primary aim will be to increase the regular immigration programs and promote immigration to Canada through the CUSMA work permit program. Moreover, the country will take the initiatives to look into irregular immigration matters. It will further provide assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. Mexico is a chief partner to Canada just like Brazil and collaborates with Canada to accomplish the main objectives within the Americas.
