The latest PNP invitation rounds occurred for three Canadian provinces, including British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba. Excluding Quebec and Nunavut, all Canadian provinces function through their separate PNPs. These provinces use the Provincial Nominee Programs to choose the economic class candidates. They try to select candidates who have greater chances of establishing economically in that particular province. The candidates must be able to contribute to economic growth.
Apart from this, Quebec consists of a unique agreement with the federal government, offering complete authority to the province concerning all immigration programs.
PNP has marked its reputation in immigration as a leading pathway for newcomers arriving in Canada. The immigration levels plan has a specific target of welcoming 117,500 new Canadian Permanent Residents annually using the PNP by 2025.
This figure is evidently more in number than the Express Entry target of 114,000.
Proving their potential to become established economically
Once a PNP candidate obtains a provincial nomination, they must proceed to apply to IRCC to gain Permanent Residency status.
According to IRCC, there are primarily three ways to assess the Canadian Permanent Residency application. This implies that the candidate must fulfill the following conditions:
- They must become economically independent in Canada.
- Their name must be present in a government’s nomination certificate of a province or territory.
- They must demonstrate their intention to stay in the province or territory that nominated them.
Usually, a provincial nomination is sufficient proof of a candidate’s potential to be economically independent. This is primarily because both the provincial nomination and permanent residence applications have the same information. However, there might be situations when IRCC feels the need to question the candidate. For instance, they might not be convinced that their skills align well with their employment offer. In another circumstance, they might have issues if they find out the candidate depends on a family member for financial assistance.
The above situations can significantly impact the candidate’s proven intention to live in that specific province. Every PNP candidate must be able to demonstrate a clear-cut intention of residing in the specific nomination for which they’ve received a nomination. They must live and work in the province of nomination. Additionally, if IRCC still has any doubts regarding the candidate, they would call them to explain and provide more clarity.
