New Brunswick and two other provinces have started issuing PALs, including Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador. This means these three provinces have successfully established a proper system for the Provincial Attestation Letters for international students seeking a Canadian study permit.
IRCC demands that the provinces start issuing PALs based on the distribution of study permits they have received under the new study permit cap this year. Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador are the provinces that have recently started issuing the Provincial Attestation Letters.
They started the system PAL after Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, and British Columbia. The remaining Canadian provinces and territories have time until March 31 to do the same.
As of now, no information is available for Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or other Canadian northern territories.
New Brunswick and two other provinces have started issuing PALs – Acquiring a PAL in New Brunswick
According to the immigration department, New Brunswick has developed a process for PAL since March 18. The province directs all international students to contact their Designated Learning Institutions to learn how to apply.
Every province’s DLI will have a distinct process for acquiring a PAL; a majority of schools will need the students to follow specific steps before they begin to apply.
For instance, the University of New Brunswick suggests that accepted international students register into their student account. Further, they must pay a non-refundable tuition deposit. The university claims that adhering to the two conditions demonstrates students’ intention to take the classes.
In addition, the school will ask for a PAL from the province for the student and email the student to inform him or her about the processing of the PAL. The standard processing time is likely to be two weeks. Further, the students will need to download a PAL for their final study permit application process.
Newfoundland and Labrador has started issuing PALs
The execution of the PAL system in Newfoundland and Labrador occurred on March 19 this year. Similar to other systems in the rest of the provinces, international students must connect with their DLI to submit their PAL application.
Memorial University in St. Johns has the greatest number of international students compared to any other DLI in this province. This DLI confirms that it will get in touch with admitted students through email if they require additional details for the process of attestation letters. It begins with students who seek to commence their semester in May 2024. No other information is available.
Obtaining a PAL in Saskatchewan
The immigration department’s official webpage claims that Saskatchewan’s PAL process started on March 13. Again, the accepted international students must contact their DLI to obtain their PAL.
No extra details related to the process of obtaining a PAL are available as of now from the province’s popular post-secondary institutions.
