Invitation to 486 Express Entry candidates by Ontario for provincial nomination.
The three major targeted occupations among the top 18 were managers, nurses and human resource professionals that were invited in this new Ontario PNP draw. After a 2 month break, Ontario resumed conducting draws, the first being held on October 6, and this time gave priority to the Human Capital Priorities Stream
The candidates who have received their invitation will be eligible for nomination from the province of Ontario, which will go into supporting their application for gaining permanent resident status. Apart from the nomination, they will be required to meet the fulfilment of the program through which they are applying to gain Canada PR.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, aligned with the federal Express Entry system, will give the foreign workers who gain a nomination, a boost of 600 points which will be counted towards their overall CRS score. The OINP gave preference to the applicants who were already present in the Express Entry pool and have a CRS score in the range of 463 and 467.

How Can A Provincial Nomination Help An Express Entry Applicant Get An ITA
Those candidates who received a nomination from a province will immediately be awarded 600 additional points in the Comprehensive Ranking System and increase their chances of getting an Invitation to Apply. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the IRCC held draws for PNP only candidates, meaning only those candidates were sent invitations through the Express Entry system who had gained a nomination from a province or territory.
In the second half of 2020, Canada opened up draws not just for those candidates who had a nomination, but also for candidates applying through other streams and pathways. All the applicants who had scored above the decided cut-off CRS score were sent invitations to apply.
Canadian Express Entry System
The Express Entry system manages the applications submitted by candidates through three economic migration streams:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program: This program is to help those foreign workers who immigrate to Canada and gain permanent residency who have skilled work experience outside Canada.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program: This stream is for those people who have experience working in a skilled trade and wish to gain permanent resident status in Canada and even citizenship.
- Canadian Experience Class: This program is to help those wishing to immigrate to Canada and settle permanently who have previous work experience as Canadian workers.
A single candidate may be eligible for more than one of the Express Entry pathways. Eligible candidates, with a score above a certain cut-off set by the IRCC, have their applications placed in a pool of candidates. The eligibility is determined based on age, work experience, educational qualifications, language proficiency, adaptability etc. These factors are also used to assign a score to each application through a Comprehensive Ranking System. Those who have the highest score in the pool will be sent an invitation to apply by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada, which permits them to continue the process for applying for Canada PR further.
