On January 12, Ontario sent invites to 502 Express Entry applicants. They can now appeal for a nomination from the province. The province conducted two draws in the last two days.
Candidates who were issued invitations to apply for a provincial nomination in this draw had their profiles in the Express Entry System with a CRS score ranging from 464 to 467 points.
Under this new draw, the province invited candidates who may meet eligibility for the Express Entry Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream. The province issued these invitations through its provincial nominee program (PNP) called Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program(OINP). This PNP targets foreign workers who are willing to work and reside in Ontario while contributing to the economy of the province.
In this one, the province sent invites to applicants with experience in one of the specializations mentioned below with their National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes:
NOC code | Occupation |
0114 | Other administrative services managers |
0122 | Banking, credit and other investment managers |
0124 | Advertising, marketing and public relations managers |
0125 | Other business services managers |
0211 | Engineering managers |
0311 | Managers in health care |
0601 | Corporate sales managers |
0631 | Restaurant and foodservice managers |
0711 | Construction managers |
0731 | Managers in transportation |
0911 | Manufacturing managers |
1121 | Human resources professionals |
1122 | Professional occupations in business management consulting |
2161 | Mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries |
3012 | Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses |
3211 | Medical laboratory technologists |
3231 | Opticians |
3233 | Licensed practical nurses |
To receive a nomination in the draw, the invited Express Entry applicants are required to have work experience for at least 12 months in the mentioned professions. Candidates who secure a nomination under any of the Express Entry-linked PNP streams will get additional CRS points, and this improves their chances of obtaining an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
About Express Entry
The Express Entry system has the reputation of being the fastest immigration pathway to Canada. Express Entry manages the applications submitted by immigration candidates under the below immigration programs:
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)
Express Entry applicants may meet eligibility for more than one of these programs. Applicants are required to submit an online profile, to begin with, the application process for Express Entry. Once the candidate enters the Express Entry pool, they are assessed based on different human capital criteria, including age, language ability, education, work experience, and others, and then they are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Then the federal department of IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) holds Express Entry draws, and the candidates with the maximum CRS score are issued an ITA (Invitation to Apply) for permanent residence.
A successful provincial nomination benefits the candidate and weighs for additional 600 CRS points in their overall score, which guarantees their chances of receiving an ITA in the following Express Entry draw.
During the pandemic, the federal department of IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) has been conducting PNP-only draws, which means only the candidates who have a provincial nomination are being invited.
