Ontario relaxed Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program conditions

Ontario relaxed Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program conditions for those applying for it. The province has expanded the qualifying requirements for students who possess a one-year college graduate certificate. Moreover, this is a significant modification to the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream of the OINP.

Ontario relaxed Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program conditions

In the past, applicants with a one-year certificate from an approved institution could only apply through the OINP’s Employer Job Offer: International Student stream. This applies only if the program requires the completion of a degree as a prerequisite for admission.

With this adjustment, the OINP allows candidates of any one-year college program offering an Ontario College Graduate Certificate to qualify. However, it must boost the number of certificate programs that qualify for the OINP. The modification became operative on January 1st, 2024.

International Student Stream – OINP Employer Job Offer

A route to permanent residency is available to international students who have a job offer in an approved skilled occupation in Ontario through the OINP Employer Job Offer: International Student stream.

The stream is fit for foreign students who are Canada’s residents or possess an employment offer in a skilled occupation. This skilled occupation must fall under the NOC’s 0, A, or B level.

International students had to make sure that they, their company, and the job offer all fulfilled the program requirements in addition to receiving a job offer. Furthermore, when international students apply, they must submit an Employer Form that an Ontario employer must complete.

Nominees with IRCC may apply for a work permit and Canadian PR status. This is possible if they display an approved application. Also, they must attain Ontario provincial nomination this stream.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants need to demonstrate that they have attained one of the following qualifying credentials:

  • A full-time undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized Canadian institution that requires at least two years of study.
  • A full-time graduate degree or diploma from an approved Canadian institution that requires at least a year to complete.
  • A qualified Ontario institution’s college graduate certificate requires at least a year to accomplish when pursued full-time.
  • A university graduate certificate from an approved Ontario institution that requires at least a year to obtain if pursued full-time.

The applicant must have studied and lived in Canada for at least half of their degree at a recognized Canadian university. Applicants should confirm that the official credential they got from their receiving institution is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate to ascertain if the graduate certificate is an eligible credential.
