Pearson Test of English will now add to the two other English language tests: IELTS and CELPIP, for Canadian immigration. Additionally, skilled workers must demonstrate their English language ability before the IRCC. The PTE will come under execution in the latter part of 2023 and also become a part of the designated language tests like IELTS and CELPIP.
The Pearson Test of English
The Pearson Test of English approval indicates the availability of at least five language tests for skilled workers. This means that there are two other French language tests along with these three English language tests. They are the TEF Canada and TCF Canada.
These skilled worker candidates must pass the language tests to prove they can contribute to the Canadian economy. According to Statistics Canada, English and French proficiency indicate significant chances to better integrate into Canada’s economy.
However, IRCC hasn’t revealed yet when the skilled worker candidates shall submit PTE for Canadian immigration application. The department has only given an estimate that it will do the needful until the latter part of 2023.
Canada’s immigration pathways
Canada provides more than a hundred pathways for immigrants under the economic class. Also, Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program are the two primary pathways according to the latest Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025. However, other economic pathways of IRCC, including the Quebec Skilled Worker Program and the Atlantic Immigration Program, require candidates to pass the language tests.
Additionally, candidates must also complete the designated language tests by IRCC with the minimum CLB score. For instance, the Federal Skilled Worker Program requires candidates to fulfill the least score of 7 in all language abilities. However, the specific programs require the least score of CLB 4.
Additionally, specific pathways through the Express Entry and provincial and territorial systems, based on the Expression of Interest system will receive increased points with a higher CLB score.
Per the official internal memo by IRCC, it has approved the PTE for Canadian immigration applications. Furthermore, the memo also talked about the possible testing changes IRCC is currently navigating.
