PNP weekly draws occurred recently, with five Canadian provinces sending invites to candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. These were British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The provincial and federal governments have a common responsibility to supervise immigration. This is precisely why the Provincial Nominee Programs came into existence in 1998 to enable provinces to nominate economic immigration candidates. Hence, PNPs aimed to select candidates who could well establish in Canada.
Consequently, every year, the federal government discloses the total number of PNP nominations and distributes it across the provinces under the Immigration Levels Plan. By 2025, the current immigration levels strategy is to admit 117,500 new permanent residents annually under the PNP.
On March 10, provincial immigration ministers approved a new multi-year immigration plan for the provinces. As a result, they could be aware of the number of new permanent residents to expect for the next three years.
Quebec doesn’t have a PNP and is an exceptional province with the right to choose 100 % of Canadian immigrants. Moreover, this is a consequence of a unique federal and provincial government agreement.
PNP weekly draws and their results between April 15 to 21
British Columbia
British Columbia issued invitations to over 203 candidates in the most recent British Columbia PNP draw held on April 18. The biggest draw, a general draw in which no specific occupations were targeted, invited 158 individuals over five streams. Express Entry applicants and candidates from the skilled worker stream needed minimum scores of 104. Candidates from the entry-level and semi-skilled streams needed scores of 85, while those from the international graduate stream needed scores of 104.
The province also sought to fill 29 positions concerning early childhood educators and assistants in the skilled worker and foreign graduate streams. Additionally, 16 positions in the healthcare industry, and fewer than five positions in other priority occupations. A minimum score of 60 was required for all targeted prospects.
Alberta
The results of the two draws held so far in April by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program finally came out this week. Candidates who had profiles in the Express Entry system received invitations.
The initial draw happened on April 5. The CRS scores of the 53 candidates selected under the Designated Healthcare Pathway: Alberta Job Offer stream ranged from 300 to 600.
The second occurred on April 18, and 68 applicants with CRS scores between 300 to 700 received invitations from the Sector Priorities. This was under the Agriculture Occupation with Alberta Job Offer stream.
Saskatchewan
Through the SINP, Saskatchewan invited a total of 1067 applicants on April 20. 444 of them received nominations from the list of in-demand professions. Meanwhile, the remaining 623 were Express Entry applicants.
All candidates required a score of 69. The March 23 SINP draw, in which only 496 applicants got nominations, was the last draw in a month and was far smaller than this one.
PNP weekly draws- results of Manitoba
Following IRCC’s exceptional immigration provisions for persons affected by the ongoing violence in the region, Manitoba welcomed 28 candidates from Ukraine on April 17.
Candidates must still meet some qualifying requirements to participate in the Manitoba PNP. For instance, they need an established relationship with the province and a Canadian Language Benchmark of 4 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Additionally, they must demonstrate that they have enough settlement money.
Prince Edward Island
In its most recent draw for the PEI PNP, held on April 20, PEI accepted 189 applicants. 180 of those invited belonged to the Labour and Express stream. Also, the last nine nominees were in the Business and Entrepreneur stream and had at least 72 points.
This draw signifies a return to the province’s typical draw pattern. Every month, PEI conducts PNP draws; however, in March, the province invited candidates in three draws, the final of which occurred on March 30.
