The Canadian Bureau of International Education revealed through a study that international students tend to choose Canada over and over again because it is known for its safe, tolerant, and stable culture. Educational institutions are also known for their rich standard and quality.
Indian students prefer Canada if they seek to pursue their studies abroad. On calculating the data of the total number of international students, we get to know that 30 percent of them are Indians only. As of December 31, 2021, around 217,000 are Indians. Indian students find Canada specifically attractive because of the English language and the Indian communities spread across the country. Studying in Canada as an Indian student isn’t that difficult.
International students can continue to have a job in Canada and also work for the decided hours every week.
Pursuing studies in Canada
Canada comprises top-notch universities, colleges, and post-secondary institutions welcoming international students.
You will need to figure out the program for which you might be eligible if you want to be a part of the educational institutions in Canada. Studying in Canada as an Indian student includes several steps.
Detailed research on the educational institution
Once you understand your career goals, it will be essential to conduct thorough research on the kind of programs that are well-suited for your goals. Moving ahead, you will have to research the location of schools and become aware of the everyday life in that particular location.
While selecting a program, make sure it is at a Designated Learning Institute. IRCC’s official website will be a great way to check whether the program is aligned with a DLI.
A Designated Learning Institute hosts international students with the official approval of the provincial and territorial governments. If the Canadian school isn’t a DLI it won’t be possible for students to fetch a study permit and later on a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
Depending upon the institutions you seek to attend, you could proceed to apply.
Receiving a ‘Letter of Acceptance
Getting approval for a DLI implies that you will also receive a Letter of Acceptance. The letter is an essential requirement to obtain a study permit.
The letter of Acceptance contains the following details:
- The Designated Learning Institution’s name and contact information.
- Your personal details: name, birth date, and address.
- The name of the study program, its level, duration, starting date, and approximate completion date.
The next step is to apply for a study permit
After acquiring a Letter of Acceptance, you must apply directly to the IRCC for a study permit. Additionally, you will include the supporting documents along with the LOA.
The additional documents will include the following:
- Evidence regarding financial support as coverage for tuition fees and living expenses.
- Police Certificates and Medical Examinations, if required.
- A detailed letter explaining your career objectives and connection with your home country.
Suppose a candidate wishes to apply for a DLI in Quebec, he will have to provide a CAQ before applying to IRCC.
Student Direct Stream- Application process of a Study Permit
Indian students have a greater opportunity to apply for a study permit under the Student Direct Stream. In the Student Direct Stream, residents with their countries included in the list will have their study permit applications fast-tracked.
SDS has a maximum of twenty days as far as its service standard is concerned. Additionally, SDS has more eligibility requirements compared to the normal study streams. Students are supposed to provide a GIC (a Guaranteed Investment Certificate) and a Canadian bank of $10,000 CAD as a participant. Not only this, but a language requirement with a 6.0 score in each aspect of IELTS: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Landing in Canada
Once you emerge in Canada to begin your study program, you could work up to 20 hours per week through a student permit during your usual semester. As a student having a summer break or winter vacation, you could work full-time as well. The defined hours for the student can also be completed through multiple jobs as there are no restrictions on the number of jobs you do.
When your study program finishes, you will have to discontinue working in Canada. Applying for a new work permit will be your way to continue staying and working in the country.
Post-Graduate Work Permit
Usually, the graduates who wish to prolong their stay in Canada have to apply for a PGWP. The Post-Graduate Work Permit allows fresh graduates from Canada’s DLIs to stay and work in Canada. Suppose candidates have work experience in Canada while possessing a PGWP, they’ll be able to acquire permanent residency through Express Entry, PNP, or other possible immigration routes.
The PGWP’s length depends upon the length of the program you undertake, for almost three years duration.
