The province of Quebec has released an updated version of eligible jobs that are high in demand to make the processing method faster and easier. The province of Quebec follows a different method to hire foreign skilled workers as compared to the method through which other provinces hire workers.
Employers of Quebec can hire foreign skilled workers for several specific occupations which can benefit from a process like the advertisement of positions under the Labour Market Impact Assessment process.
In short, an employer who looks forward to recruiting a foreign skilled worker through the category of Temporary Foreign Worker Program has to initiate by getting an LMIA, this document will approve that no Canadian employee is in a position to be recruited.
The province of Quebec has been seen consistently posting its list of eligible occupations on the 24th of February. The list consists of all the occupations that are eligible for the facilitated LMIA process and adds new updates after considering the current requirements of the labor market.
This year’s annual report was released on the 27th of May consisting of 60 eligible occupations that have been added to the list of 2022-2023.
The inclusion of new jobs consists of various occupations like technicians for operating machines, sales executives, workers for restaurants, administrative officers, professionals in the tourism sector, drivers, etc. Applications under the category of Facilitated LMIA process must obtain valid approval from both the branches of the Canadian Government- federal and provincial.
This is why a valid form attached with supporting documentation needs to be submitted by the employers who look forward to recruiting Foreign skilled workers.
The respective form must be submitted to 2 authorities- Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)
Measures adopted by Quebec
Currently, the province is witnessing the least number of admission of immigrants in its history, simultaneously with the lowest rate of unemployment.
Other major issues faced by the province of Quebec are low fertility rate and more senior citizens which all are impacting the potential of employers to recruit employees.
To tackle this problem, the government of Quebec has adopted several measures to ease the process of recruiting employees and reduction of processing time for most immigration programs.
The Government of Quebec has dealt an agreement between the Canadian federal government and the Quebec Immigration Ministry which will offer employers the authority to hire 20% of Foreign skilled workers which used to be only 10%.
Another step taken by the Government of Quebec is the introduction of the International Mobility Program Plus which was launched with the objective to fasten the process of arrival of foreign workers in the province whose application for Canadian permanent residency is pending.
Thus, a total of seven thousand foreign skilled workers qualify to receive an open work permit and then start their jobs in the province of Quebec simultaneously waiting for the results of Canadian permanent residency.
