Quebec invited 322 immigration candidates in the new Arrima draw

On January 27, the Canadian province of Quebec issued invitations to 322 skilled workers to apply for permanent selection in its recent Arrima draw.

These invitations were issued by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) to the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QRSWP) applicants.

Invited candidates were required to have their profiles submitted in the Arrima Expression of Interest system, and these candidates had to meet the minimum score requirement of 647 points with a valid offer of employment outside the Montreal metropolitan region.

This was the second draw held by the province of Quebec in 2022, making the total number of issued invitations to 834 until now in this year. Last year, Quebec issued a total of 3,564 invitations to the immigration candidates to submit an application through Arrima for permanent selection.

Introduction to Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QRSWP)

The Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QRSWP) targets skilled foreign workers who want to reside and work in Quebec and contribute to the province’s economy. The QRSWP is most preferred by skilled foreign workers as well as international graduates who want to immigrate to Quebec on a permanent basis for employment.

Once invitations are issued to the candidates by MIFI to apply for permanent selection, the invited candidates are required to submit the complete application with the processing fees within 60 days. Usually, the province targets to process these applications within a duration of six months, starting from the date when the complete application (including all required forms and documents) is received by the department.

In case the application is accepted by the province, the candidates will be issued a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ, also known as Quebec Selection Certificate). This certificate can be used by the candidate to submit a permanent residence application with the federal immigration department.

Applicants who wish to immigrate to Quebec are assessed under a different system compared to those who wish to settle in any other Canadian province or territory. The immigration programs to Quebec are managed and operated by the province, and these programs are separate from the federal immigration programs of Canada.

Quebec’s 2022 admission targets

The Canadian province of Quebec announced its immigration admission targets for this year in October 2021. The province is expecting to welcome the majority of the new immigrants through its economic immigration programs, which include the Québec experience program (PEQ) and Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP)

As per the admission targets 2022 of Quebec, the province plans to admit 49,500 to 52,500 candidates across all immigration categories. Furthermore, the province is aiming for an additional 18,000 admissions in order to meet the admission levels that the Canadian federal government failed to meet due to the pandemic in the year 2020. This indicates Quebec might admit over 70,000 new immigrants this year.
