Saskatchewan PNP broadens immigration eligibility

Saskatchewan PNP broadens immigration eligibility for workers seeking to apply for permanent residence in this province. The province will do so through Saskatchewan’s Provincial Nominee Program (Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program).

This announcement will apply to workers working in intermediate and occupations with lower skills in jobs in Saskatchewan. They will be able to benefit through the Existing Work Permit Stream under SINP. However, they must fulfill all the eligibility requirements for SINP and the stream.

Extending qualifying occupations for permanent residence implies that permit holders from 279 professions are now eligible for permanent settlement in Saskatchewan. These include farm laborers, truck drivers, nurses’ aids, and retail sales staff.

Earlier, only new immigrants working in high-skilled jobs (TEER 0,1, 2, and 3) and designated trades had PR eligibility through the stream.

The Canadian government uses a system called (TEER) categories to categorize jobs in the country according to these four aspects of each profession. These levels go from 0 (the most skilled occupations, managerial roles) to 5 (the least skilled roles, employment without formal schooling qualifications).

Applicants must fulfill the eligibility requirements of the specific stream as well as the general requirements of the SINP if they seek to apply under the new extended stream:

  • SINP job approval letter with validity;
  • A valid Open Work Permit and work permit with LMIA, a Francophone mobility work permit, or  CUAET Visa;
  • Possess a Canadian Language Benchmark of 4, with a job under TEER 4 or 5 occupation;
  • Full-time work experience of six months in the specific job mentioned in the job approval letter;
  • Hold an eligible Saskatchewan license in case of having a regulated occupation in this province.

Non-eligible individuals under the expanded stream

The current work permit stream has witnessed an eligibility expansion. However, the following individuals will not be eligible for Saskatchewan immigration under this immigration stream:

  • Food and Beverage Servers – they will need to apply under the Hard to Fill Skills Pilot or Long Haul Truck Driver Project.
  • Health Professionals need to apply under the SINP Health Professional Sub-Category.
  • Graduates currently under the PGWP. They could apply under the International Skilled Worker-Employment Offer Sub Category or Saskatchewan Experience-Student Sub-Category.
  • Refugee claimants in Canada.

Saskatchewan seeks more newcomers

Saskatchewan’s provincial government has negotiated with the federal government to enhance the provincial distribution of nominees for three years- 2023, 2024, and 2025.

This identifies a few of the greatest job vacancies witnessed in any Canadian province. Saskatchewan comprises more than 16,000 job vacancies advertised on several online job portals. This implies that nearly 112,000 new jobs will be available in the upcoming five years.
