This draw took place after the recent draw on December 8, in which 5,900 candidates received invitations to apply, while the minimum CRS score requirement was 481. The draw occurred for candidates in the STEM professions. Similarly, on December 7, a category-based draw was held for French-skilled candidates. This French category draw issued ITAs to 1,000 candidates who had a minimum CRS score of 470.

Besides this, an all-program draw also occurred on December 6, in which the minimum score requirement was 561. This emerged to be the first draw that took place after a month’s pause. Before this draw, a recent category-based draw occurred for healthcare occupation candidates on October 26.

A temporary pause in the Express Entry draws

IRCC didn’t justify the temporary break of one month for the Express Entry draws. However, on November 14, the department informed people through a tweet that there was an IT glitch in the builder profile of Express Entry. As a result of this glitch, candidates could not upload their profiles. Later, on November 16, IRCC reported that the technical issue had been resolved. However, the Express Entry draws didn’t immediately start again, even after this specific tweet.

Although this might be one of the reasons behind the delay, there still might be other reasons. These could be the changes in staff, the Comprehensive Ranking System’s review, the Immigration Levels Plan, and if they are working on meeting the Express Entry targets.

Express Entry System – What is its significance?

Express Entry supervises the applications through its three primary programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the CEC. This system utilizes the Comprehensive Ranking System to assess candidates through various human capital characteristics. Furthermore, the candidates receive scores. These Human Capital attributes include education, language proficiency, age, occupation, and work experience.

Those individuals attaining the highest CRS scores will have greater opportunities of receiving an invitation to apply in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

After the candidates acquire an ITA for PR in Canada, they can further proceed with their application submission to IRCC.

However, the department will evaluate the application and determine its outcome within a timeframe of six months.

Category-based selection draws under Express Entry

The new invitation rounds of Express Entry target specific candidates who have skilled worker experience in certain in-demand professions. In a way, this move will solidify the Canadian economy and labor force. One of the categories out of the total six new categories is also the French language proficiency. The remaining five categories target candidates who have experience in the following fields:

  • STEM professions
  • Healthcare occupations
  • Agriculture and Agri-Food
  • Trade
  • Transport

The category-based invitation rounds will contribute to the Immigration Levels Plan’s targets of the Express Entry Federal highly skilled candidates. Canada will welcome 114,000 new PRs annually through Express Entry until 2025.
