The latest Express Entry all program draw issued 3000 ITAs – defining category-based selection
In May 2023, IRCC declared that it would start conducting draws for candidates under Express Entry on the basis of specific attributes. These draws will not only consider the total CRS score. The launch of these new categories had to take place in 2023 itself. This launch came after the change in IRPA in 2022. The change allowed the immigration minister to choose Express Entry candidates, likely enabling Canada to fulfill the mandate to solidify the economy and encourage the French language outside Quebec.
The introduction of these six new categories occurred for the in-demand professions and new immigrants with stronger French language abilities.
The five occupational categories include the following:
- STEM Professions;
- Healthcare;
- Agriculture and Agri-Food;
- Transport; and
- Trade
The first category-based selection draw took place on June 28, and ever since, draws for all the categories, excluding Agriculture and Agri-Food, have taken place. The maximum number of invitations have been issued to French language category students among all the category draws. The highest number accounts for 6,900 invitations. Candidates looking forward to the Express Entry category-based selection must remain in the Express Entry pool with the minimum CRS score.
Defining Express Entry
Express Entry leads the pathways of immigration and is a system that handles immigration applications effectively through three chief programs. These are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, CEC, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
These programs utilize the Comprehensive Ranking System to assess candidates based on human capital factors. These factors are typically the age, education, occupation, work experience, and language skills. Each of these characteristics has a different value. Additionally, candidates who possess the maximum scores are likely to get the ITAs in the upcoming Express Entry draws.
Express Entry eligibility primarily depends upon the specific program. For instance, the FSTP and FSWP have varied minimum CLB requirements. Both these programs also demand a certain amount of settlement funds. However, the Canadian Experience Class has no settlement funds requirement.
