Individuals who have already received an email regarding the sponsorship of their parents and grandparents must submit a complete online application using the portal of permanent residence. Either the individual or their parents and grandparents will be the principal applicant. Hence, the individual or the parent and grandparent must submit the applicant, depending on who the main applicant is. It could also be another authoritative person representing the application on their behalf.
For instance, if another authoritative representative is applying on behalf of the principal applicant, they must do so through their own Representative Residence Portal account.
They must submit their application on 22nd December 2023 or before this date to IRCC. Individuals must avoid late or incomplete application submissions. If the individuals, their parents and grandparents, or the authoritative representative fail to apply online, they might use the alternate application method.
Steps to ensure a complete application submission
IRCC will email a barcode to individuals who will align the information (submitted during their expression of interest to the sponsor) with the application. There is a section called the “additional supporting documents” under which they must submit a digital copy of the above page. They must add the copy using the “other” document name in the portal.
Applicants must keep the following points in mind to ensure that their application is complete:
- Ensure that they comply with all the instructions in the application guide.
- The information they submitted in their interest to sponsor form must align with the information within their sponsorship application. Also, they must submit an identical copy of the document of their status in Canada.
- They must have paid the online fees since IRCC only accepts online modes of payment. Besides the fee payment, applicants must also submit proof of their payment. Not providing proof of payment will discard their application as incomplete. IRCC doesn’t accept incomplete applications and will not process them.
- Applicants must figure it out beforehand if they will need to submit their biometrics. If yes, they will have to submit their biometric fee simultaneously with their application fee.
- Submission of your Social Insurance Number must be the next step. On the other hand, they must consent to the IMM 5768 form. This will enable IRCC to obtain information related to their personal income tax from the Canada Revenue Agency. As a result, it will be able to analyze if the applicants fulfill the income requirements.
- Contrarily, applicants unwilling to submit their SIN and consent must ensure submission of the IMM 5748 form. It is the form of Sources for the Sponsorship of Parents and Grandparents. In addition, they must submit Notices of Assessment issued by CRA for the tax years 2020, 2021, and 2022.
- They shall get their personal tax information through the CRA’s “my account” digital service.
MNI requirements
If required, the applicant sponsor and the co-signer will have to fulfill the Minimum Necessary Income requirement for the next three consecutive years following the date of application. The PGP 2023 intake enables IRCC to evaluate the sponsors based on the 2020, 2021, and 2022 tax years.
