Category-based selection
Express Entry candidates possessing in-demand skills and attributes get a significant chance for selection in the Express Entry category draws. These draws came into focus in May last year. IRCC developed six categories that will continue to exist in 2024. The categories are as follows:
- Healthcare occupations
- Trade occupations – carpenters, constructors, and plumbers
- STEM occupations
- Transport occupations
- Strong French language abilities
- Agriculture and Agri-Food occupations
The categories represent the current overwhelming labor shortages and IRCC’s mandate to promote the French language outside Quebec. Francophones have acquired the highest number of invitations since the launch of these categories.
Express Entry
The Express Entry system handles the immigration applications for candidates applying under the chief programs. These include the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the FSTP. The candidates under these programs receive ranks against each other via the Comprehensive Ranking System. The CRS system provides scores to the candidates based on distinct human capital characteristics, such as age, occupation, work experience, education, and language skills.
Those candidates who acquire the highest CRS scores are able to receive an ITA for Canadian PR. IRCC provides sixty days to candidates once they receive an invitation to submit their final permanent residence application.
