The replacement process for a Canadian immigration document

The replacement process for a Canadian immigration document applies to situations where candidates have lost them. They might be unable to access them if they’re stolen or damaged. However, new immigrants can apply to replace these documents or for their status verification. IRCC has a certain procedure for the replacement of these immigration documents. Furthermore, before understanding the whole process, it is essential to comprehend IRCC’s definition of an immigration document. This is primarily due to IRCC’s emphasis on replacing a temporary resident document in this blog.

IRCC’s definition of an immigration document

IRCC’s help center webpage consists of a glossary that defines an immigration document as a formal document provided by IRCC itself, CBSA, the Canadian visa office (outside Canada), or the Case Processing Center. However, it is not a legal definition. Immigration documents include the following types of documents:

  • A Temporary Resident Permit, Canadian work or study permit;
  • A Permanent Resident Card, and
  • A visitor Record

IRCC states that the replacement process is not accessible for those who seek changes in their immigrant visa, record of landing, or COPR. Furthermore, the department claims that issues associated with these documents will not be considered through the following:

  • Applying to modify the Record of Landing;
  • Requesting to modify the confirmation of Permanent Residence and
  • Authentic and valid documents related to temporary residence.
